Allergic reaction to antibiotics

Amalia S.

I'm not allergic to anything... er... WASN'T allergic to anything. Suddenly, after just wrapping up  a course of antibiotics 3 days ago, I started experiencing extreme itching all over my body. At first, I didn't realize what was going on, because I'm unfamilliar with allergies and after all, the antibiotics were of the same type I've taken before. After 3 days and sleepless nights of itching to the point that I wanted to rip my skin off, it dawned on me that I needed professional help. To make a long story short, I saw a dermatologist today. She gave me a cortizone shot, prescribed some meds and I hope things settle down soon.
Now... you will ask... what does all this have to do with weight loss? The crux is the cortizone. In the past, I have gained enormous amounts of weight from the cortizones I've taken for my MS. Just the mention of cortizone makes my skin crawl. When I realized that this itching was probably some kind of allergy, I knew I'd probably need cortizone. I put off going to the hospital until I was so red, swollen and itchy that it scared everyone who saw me, just because I didn't want to take cortizones. Bad decision. I almost went into allegic shock.
I'll follow my cortizone treatment now, I don't have a choice. I only pray that I don't have a "fat blow up" allergic reaction to the cortizone!!

Patrece, hon, my problems seem trivial compared to yours! Anyway, I'm used to one thing going wrong after another, it's the story of my life. The weight loss is going well, and for me that's the most important thing at this point, so I'm good! You try to keep positive too, and I'm sure things will go well for you too!

Thanks Amalia! I will be just fine. NO your troubles are not trivial compared to mine. If there is one thing I know it is that all of our challenges and troubles are just as real and troubling, as anothers is for them. They may be different, but very real.

Get better soon and keep up the great work on your wls!
