One month post op tomorrow

I don't mean to look for something bad in all that is good so don't get this post wrong...........

So six weeks total of being on diets and a 33lb weight loss so far......which I am VERY grateful for.

My problem is that I don't EVER feel full but I never pu**** either I measure all my food out.  But I am able to eat up to a cup of "mushy" food and more than a cup of soup.  My sister in law says I am actually chewing my food TOO well and I do make my meal last up to 20mins.  Is it possible to chew TOO much that you can fit more food?

So is this normal?  Has anyone else NOT felt full?  I am ALWAYS satisfied though or at least scared to eat any more.  Which isn't hard seems how I don't ever feel hungry.  LOL  But am kind of feeling like this is all too good to be true.

Also when can we add small amounts of carbs like tortillas, bread, and pasta?

I noticed that I wouldn't feel satisfied or full when I didn't have something higher in protein to eat.  I think it's hard to feel full when you are eating the pureed or soft foods. Not sure if that's your situation. Now that I am eating "normal" foods, I find most of the time I'm satisfied with what I eat.  I don't like to push so I measure or weigh most of what i eat.  Very hard when you are out at a restaurant.

I can only have a piece of toasted wheat bread any other type of bread is not my friend.  Same thing with the tortillas.  For some reason I can't eat them.  The pastas I would wait to talk to your nut about that, mine is ok with only very little amounts.  I don't have it often.

Hope this helps!

If you had an RNY, you are eating too much at a sitting if you are eating a cup. At 6 weeks you should be getting in about 1 to 1 1/2 oz per meal, and they should be focused on protein. You are doing great with the weight loss, but in all honesty, a 1 cup serving shouldn't come until closer to a year out. (for RNY that is) Unless of course you were instructed otgherwise. The more solid your food the more you will feel the full sensation, but never push for that. Always stop when satisfied. No.. you can never chew too much. the more the better. You are better off eating 5 small 1 to 1 1/2 oz meals than 3 larger meals. They will tend to strectch your pouch out. I think sometimes the full factor is affected with the surgery, and not noticed. So very important to measure so as not to eat too much.

Adding carbs is up to your surgeon and nutritionist. Most recommend 4 months, some sooner, some later. Ask them to be sure. If you do eat any of these make sure they are whole grain only and in very tiny portions, cuz when eating, you need that protein first and foremost!

Best of luck!

Just of add one more thing... Are you drinking while eating? If so, that will push the food out of your pouch and make it a "slider" food that just flows right out of your pouch...

Just a suggestion

Thanks all for the advice......
LULU,  I think maybe you might be on to something with the soft foods not making you full.  :)

Patrece,  I am focusing on protein with every meal I average 60 to 80grams a day of protein between my food and protein shakes.  I was just curious about the carbs and will be sure to ask my NUT at my next appointment.

Ledaizey,  I'm not drinking with my meals I stop 15mins before hand and don't drink again until a 1/2hr after my last bite.  This is what the NUT instructed.

I also forgot to mention, to keep in mind that you have to fight head hunger too.  You think your hungry but your not.  I sometimes have that happen and I try to do something to keep myself busy.  Good luck with everything!

Susan, you got so many great replies, I have nothing new to add.  Just follow your surgeon's advice, the longer you can not use carbs, the easier it is.  Once carbs are started, I for one craved them even more.  The denser proteins keep me satisfied longer.

Congrats on the successful losing.  hugs
