Lap Band on 06/21/10 with

Hello Everyone, okay, now reality is sinking in…excitement has not worn off…just have a few questions before my surgery and was hoping you all can help.

They are requiring I stay overnight because my lap band surgery is so late in the day. They say not to drive for at least 2 weeks. What has been your experience with this?

Also, I want to start an exercise regiment but curious to know after surgery how quickly are you able to get back into routine? Is it 2, 3 or maybe even 4 weeks?

Thanks

I had RNY with similar restrictions- no driving for 2 weeks (it's really as long as you are on pain meds). I didn't need pain meds after coming home so was driving by the beginning of the 2nd week. I started walking the night of surgery but was not allowed other types of exercise til my 6 week check up. Good luck with your journey!

I drove at 5 days out. BUT was not on any pain meds. Best you can do is listen to your body and your doc, and do not drive if on pain meds.

You will recover much faster with laproscopic lap band, then an RNY patient will even laproscopically, as it is so minimally invasive. Start out slowly with your regimine. Do plenty of walking. Once you hit about 2 weeks out, if all incisions are healed, you should be able to begin water aerobics, swimming, etc. Nothing too strenuous probably until after 6 weeks. Unless your doc okays it otherwise. It may be 4 for lapband, but go with what your surgeon says here.

Wishing you the best of luck in your upcoming surgery. You can begin a walking regimine right away. Start slowly and build up as you can. Several small walks a day will help prevent clotting, and help get the air out that they pumped into you during the surgery. It will also help you begin a good new habit for keepng active.

I have similar experience to Rhonda and Patrece. I was up walking the same evening of surgery. The walking continues to this day. I was permitted to start weight lifting at 6 weeks, I increased the distance and intensity as I was able with the walking. Ask your surgeon and follow the recommendations, they know you better than any of us online. Hugs
