Hello, I am new to the group and I totally put my about me stuff in the wrong place when I joined the group the other day.  I think I did anyway, that was a couple of days ago....  I got a date today!
June 4th is the day.  Totally scared, and nervous, very excited too.  I am sure most people feel that way.  My step mother had a fit today, and tried to get me to reconsider.  Her cousin died, she said after the same surgery, and everybody she knows gained the weight back plus some.  Hmm.....  Going through with it anyway.  Supposed to start on liquid diet next week. The nurse said she was sending me the diet etc, so I could start next week instead of tomorrow.  Since I have not seen this diet.  Does anybody have any thoughts, or ideas.

Thanks for the post Kathryn.  Each and every surgeon has a different pre op diet.  The best thing is to follow the plan set out by your surgeon.  Even with all the varieties of diet plans they work.  The liquid diet is pretty easy.  Use sugar free popsicles for any time you just need to chew.

Hello, and welcome to our group! There always seems to be a naysayer that knows someone who did this or that, or that had THIS happen to them. Those she knows *****gained and them some, did not make the lifestyle changes that must be made in order to succeed in this journey. This surgery is a tool, not a cure. If our eating and exercise habits do not change, neither will our long term outcome.

Other than a couple of things like nutritional deficiencies, or some rare complications, there isn't much other danger attached to this surgery than with any other surgery that one is put under for. Clots are a risk, and are with any surgery, so we have to make sure we walk several times a day, even just short little ones. Keeps the blood moving and helps prevent the clots from occurring.

I wish you the best as you embark on this jouney. and know we are here to help support and encourage you along the way. Don't allow those who do not support you to sabbotage your efforts or discourage you.

As far as the liquid diet goes, Kathy nailed it. Follow your surgeons advice, there is such a huge difference in what different surgeons require, it would be hard to guess what yours will expect.

Again ... welcome! Let us know how we can support you in your journey to better health and life.quality.

Welcome :)  and congrats on your choice of making this lifechange. Don't let negative people pull you down, you are doing this for your health not to make them happy.
The liquid diet is different for everyone, mine for instance was just broth, sugarfree jello and sugar free popsicles.. but others could have pudding and cream soups so it all depends on your surgeon. Just follow what he gives you and you will be fine:)

I look forward to following your journey on here:)

Aah, thank you for the reply.  I just needed to kind of have an idea of what to look forward to.  I certainly plan to follow his recommendations.  It will just be a couple of days before I get the instructions.  You know curiosity killed the cat and all that.  LOL  Most of the family has been supportive, the step mother just through me for a loop a little bit and made me sort of doubt myself.  But as I told her, I want to be able to get up the stairs to sleep with my poor husband more, and there is also danger in not doing this.  I am sick and in pain, and if this will help even a little, then it's worth a try.  I am terrified, and worried and feel alone even though I know I am not.  It is just such a huge undertaking and life altering thing, and that is always scary I think.  I am looking forward to being able to keep the grand kids some, and having the energy to really take care of them.  It will be okay, just don't have anyone here that understands much about this type of surgery.  Glad I have OH to help me.  Again thanks for answering the post!

Welcome!  So glad for your date.  How exciting.  People try to discourage us for a number of reasons.  I have been on the scared pooples side for a while, but my doctor told me I'm a greater risk of dying if I kept going the way I was going vs doing the surgery.  You sound like you are in as much pain as I am.  I wish you the best.

Yes ma'am, I am in a ridiculous amount of pain much of the time.  Thank heaven for pain meds!  But I so hate taking them.  I'm afraid of getting hooked, but I'm more afraid of the pain.  I do wait until I hurt to take them, so as not to just take them just to take them.  I stopped and thought about the fact that she is even bigger than I am, and obviously she has not found that "better way" of losing weight.  So, forward we go.  I just got done ordering some chewable vitamins for bariatric patients, and some protien drink things for the same.
I hope they are not really terrible LOL!  I have been told by other's on OH that these were good though.  Thank you for answering my post, and hope you are doing well.  Are you new, what type WLS?  How are you doing?  Write back if you can.  Thanks Again
