10 day post op

Today is a much better day than yesterday.

I stopped taking my Lortab liquid pain med yesterday morning cause for one I didn't feel I really need anything that strong and second I hadn't POOPED!!!

I realized it was probably the Lortab because my mom was actually hospitalized for a impacted bowel from taking vicodin pills.  So I did a bit of a test.  I figured the pain wasn't bad and was easily controlled on tylenol if I needed something and waited.  Sure enough by this afternoon everything was flowing fine.  Thank goodness I realized before it got too bad.

Also is there anyone out there that HAD to quit smoking to get the surgery and has any advice on how to stay quit?  I have had a harder time since the surgery than before it.

Glad to hear things are "moving" along (hehehehehe)  that can be really uncomfortable.

I never smoked so I can't help with that, but I believe Patrece used to...

Patrece.. correct me if I am wrong.. please...

Hi, Yes I also had to quit smoking. I found it very HARD to stop. The first week was the hardest for me! After I was home from the hospital I kinda felt like I was starting over but I just keep tellin myself " what are you thinking about that for, you don't smoke." So far it has worked, but I had only been smoke free for about 6 weeks. I dont plan on starting again, its hard enough to recover from this without smoking but only time will tell...

Glad your having a better day today that is always nice,  I never smoked but my bowels are like nothing and it drives me crazy i go like a rabbit and every 2-3 days this is yuck but they say once we get introduced to more foods we will get a pattern, I heard we will also have a lot of gas but I don't seem to have any more then usual or even less then b4,  but that isn't a complaint LOL.  Wishing you a speedy recovery!

So glad that things are a movin' through.  It is good to get off the stronger pain meds when you can.  Everyone recovers at different rates and the narcotic meds can bind you up real tight.

Wish I had good advice on the smoking success, know that this too will pass.  Find something else to keep your hands busy.  Are you using a nicotine patch, may need one for a few days till the worst of this is over.

I found out about post op constipation the hard way, lol.  Milk of magnesia was recommended by the wurgery staff.  Uckkkkkkk chalky, rest of the bottle still sits on the shelf.  Only plan to use is as a last resort.
