Hi, I'm new here and 3 weeks today out of surgery. I have had somewhat of a ruff time. Today is the best I have done to be honest and some are better than others. My main problems is drinking or eating enough. I have had a problem with dehydration, ect. and have been very tired and weak some days. My husband now thinks I'm just lazy because I have no energy but its been very hard for me to drink and my dr tell me some people take longer than others and not to be so hard on myself.  Wondering if anyone has any advice for me please? Thanks!

Vick... when a person first joins OH, the first posts have to be approved. I guess it is the form of spam control they use here. So if the first post or two comes in to our grup, we have to approve it. Just thought i'd let ya know.

Lazy?  You had a surgery that but your guts open and rearranged them.  I keep reading everyone describing this pain as worse than having the CSection.  Shame on hubby.  I would remind him to be supportive and not a pain in the rear end.  Also I read a lot of people have a huge variation in recoveries.  I've read anywhere between 2 and 5 weeks for RNY.  I agree that you shouldn't be hard on yourself.  I hope you start to feel like yourself soon.  I will send a little prayer your way.

The issues you are having are pretty common. I to have issues with dehydration and getting enough to eat, but my doc assures me that it will all straighten out and to concentrate on fluids so that is what i am doing... I try to eat high protein (obviously ) foods when I do eat to try to keep my levels up...

Take it easy and rest so your body can rebuild.. Your energy will come back, it will just take sometime..

Welcome to our group Christy. And congrats on your surgery. It will get easier. We all heal at our own pace. when it is hard to get in the fluids and protein, it can take a bit longer. I agree to first focus on keeping yourself hydrated, and maybe try to add some protein in to some of what you drink. Try to keep your liquids at your side always, and sip sip sip every few minutes. Also try sugar free popsicles. They help with hydration and with getting some intense flavor, that you may enjoy.

Has your hubby ever had major surgery? if so, he must be a prize recovery person, because what you are experiencing is all a part of recovering and getting better. As you are able to get in more food and liquids and as your body finishes healing, you will start to feel better and have more energy. make sure to get in a few short walks each day. This canhelp rev the energy a llittle.

Hang in there. It will get better and be oh so worth it.

Thank you everyone for your encouragment and advice!! This is actually my second major surgery in the last 9 months. I also had major back surgery. I had a fusion done on my L5 - S1 that doesnt seem to want to heel all the way. I get injections in my spine every few months for that. I am trying to get my walking in and most days i'm able to. I'm having a treadmill delivered to my home today which I think will help a lot because I can't walk a long distance at one time because of my back. Now I will be able to walk on and off all day long. God Bless and thanks to all of you. Tammy C

Welcome to the group Tammy.  Congrats on getting to the losing side of surgery.  Your energy and strength will improve each day.  Like everyone else said, you are recovering from major surgery.

Having a treadmill will make it easier to get in small amounts of walking frequently.  Good choice.  Follow the lead of your body, rest when you need to, encourage yourself to get in the liquids, supplements and exercise.  Getting the liquids in will get easier with time too.  Here to wander along this adventure with you.  Let's lose together.  Hugs
