Hi Everyone.  I am 8 days post op from RNY.  What an experience this has all been.  I have been overweight since I bought my first car at 19 and have gained 100lbs since I got married 14yrs ago.  Actually it's probably alot more with all the many many losses I have had over the years.  But every time I lost I was back up to the starting weight and then some within 2 yrs.  I am sure this story is nothing different from most people and that is why we have all made the decision to have surgery.

It has been really GREAT finding this website though cause it really does give you support on this journey.

As far as my journey so far it has felt very bumpy...........High protein diet food from my surgeons office for 2 weeks prior to surgery and now am on a full liquid diet of protein shakes and low calorie fluids.  I cheated a few times with real food on the pre op diet but I always kept to low fat low carb foods like raw almonds and sliced chiken lunch meat.  But I felt sooooo guilty.  Now being on the liquid diet I am DYING  LOL  ;)  I have also cheated just a tiny tiny bit with homemade bean soup and some really runny tuna salad.  So far my new pouch hasn't revolted but I am terrified I am messing up my progress.  What do I do about the FAT GIRL part of my brain that also should have been removed or redone??!?!?!?!?

I am obviously NOT hungry but find myself wandering the kitchen :(

So that's me in a nut shell.............I am looking forward to your meeting on Mondays :)

Welcome to bariatric buddy family Susan.  Your story sounds close to mine and many others here.  Are you talking with a counselor who specializes in eating disorders?  This will help.  Journaling also helps.  When you find yourself wandering to the kitchen, stop, write down the emotion that comes to mind.  Are you bored, lonely, angry, afraid, these emotions also need nourishing, we are used to trying to fill these feelings with food.  Take a moment to distract yourself with something else.  Read, write, sing, walk, drink a glass of water.  Give this at least 15 minutes, I find that sometimes I was really thirsty and confused the feelings.

You can always pop online here and visit with friends.  Anything to find something to do with your hands and mind.  Clear the cupboards of offending foods, it takes soooooooo much longer if you have to get into the car, drive and go to get whatever you think you are craving.  Giving your rational mind time to have a chat with the emotional part of your brain.

Looking forward to walking this adventure with you.  Let the adventure begin.  Hugs

susan, welcome to our brood.  we are steadily growing yet we still have the small group closeness.  you can be as close as u want to be with the other people here. post a lot and reply and offer support and you will make lots of friends.  let us know when you need to share and many of us will be there for you.  my name is vick and i had my surgery 1/9.  i am at 142.4 today.  i want to weight between 140 and 145 all the time. i have given my self wiggle room. i do this so i won't get freaked out when i go over one set goal.  we tend to weigh less from day to day. water retention, etc.
i wouldn't eat anything your not supposed to yet, it could hurt your stomach. kathy gave you some good advice on how not to do this.  kathy is a sweetheart and has a lot of great things to say.  almost as much as i have. lol, lol

hyou will never get flamed on this board, everybody is loving and caring and this is so important to me.  we don't always agree but that is the way it should be. it's how you go about disagreeing that is important.  if you ever feel like you are getting treated harshly or rudely, please let patrece, kathy or me know.  thanks so much for choosing bbariatric buddies as your home group.  vick

Welcome Susan! You got a lot of good advice from kathy and Vick. They are great ladies, thats why they are my left and my right hands..lol I'm somewhere in there too..lol. The other members of our group are great people too. I LOVE the family feeling we have around here. We are here for everyone, no matter what the challenge, joy or subject on thier mind or heart. This is an all encompassing journey. All aspects of our lives affect the wls part and vice versa.

It's too bad that when we have wls, they can't sorta hypnotize us to wipe away all of the old mindsets and leave us with fresh and healthy food attitudes to go along with our surgical tools. Ahhh but not so. It is a daily committment to to stay on top of what and why you are eating. It is important too, to follow the food guidelines your surgeon set, so that your pouch can heal without extra challenges to work against. If you really want to "eat or chew" go for a sugar free popsicle. Remind yourself, this is only for a short while, and soon, you will be having solid fods again. But until then, enjoy a break from cooking if you can.

When you feel too tempted.. walk away from the kitchen and jump on here and share withus. feel free to vent all you need to. There's big changes going in inside your body and mind, and it is not an easy transition for most. When you think of food, try researching healthy meal plans for when you are able to eat solids again. Use the time you used to spend with food, learning the healthy new ways that you must incorperate into your life now, to achieve and maintain long term success. Fight the urge to cheat hard.. this will only serve to make this journey harder on you later. None of us will ever do everything perfectly. we are a work in progress.  You have an awesome new tool...use it wisely while it is working hard for you, as the day will come that success will be by your own efforts. make the most of this time you have to achieve the maximum loss in minimal time and embrace the new you!

Thanks ladies for all the great advice.  In the short time I have been a member on this site I have found a wealth of information.   I am very excited to find this group that has the experience and history under it's belt to help me with this journey.  Thanks again for being here and so very supportive.

FYI........I stopped cheating on my liquids and am sworn to eat just SF jello and SF popcicles till my dr's apointment on Tuesday.  :)
