Crying

Hi all,
I just need to talk to someone because for the last 2 days all I feel like doing is crying. I have had 2 outbursts already and for no reason really. I am just having the hardest time sleeping because I have to sleep on my back and seeing my spine is already screwed up by my accident, I guess it just can't handle the pressure of being laid on. I wake up every 2 hours in so much pain that I just want to scream, Pain in my tail bone, up my spine and not to mention the pain in the 2  biggest incisions I have;( I have liquid lortab which knocks me out for about 2 hours but as soon as that is worn out I am awake. I have to get out of bed (so painful to do that too) and sit up in a chair for at least an hour so my back can get some rest.

Then I go back to bed and take another 10 mg of the painkiller and sleep for about 2 hours. The problem is that it isn't even restful sleep.. I am just so freakin tired it is driving me crazy!!! The doc wants me to walk about 30 mins a day.. I am so tired I am lucky if I get 10 a day of walking.. I don't know what to do:(

well thanks for listening, and on a happier note.. Happy Mommies Day to all you Moms out there:)

Davina,

I know that this isn't much help but it sounds like you are a new post-op.  It will get better.  I was miserable the first couple of weeks but I promise you will start to feel better soon.

Have you thought about taking the Lortab liquid and then sleeping in the chair?

Good luck and keep posting.

Davina... Honey, I hear ya! I too struggled with this for the first couple of weeks. Get LOTS of pillows and use them to help position yourself and change pressure points, etc. I did this after the first 5 days, and had wished I had done it sooner.

Split the 30 minutes of walking up, but please DO get it in. It is important to help prevent blood clots and to get the air out from surgery. Try to do 3 10 minute walks or even 6 5 minute walks. This may make it easier for you.

Hang in there, it will improve. I know its hard right now, and I am sorry yu are hurting so much, but try the above suggestions, I think it may help.
Hugs! And happy Moms day!

davina, i lived in my recliner the first several months.  if i laid in be, i put pillows under my knees to help my back and legs.  get you a bunch of pillows like patrece says.  that will really help.  also, if u don't have a recliner, see if u can rent one somewhere. i would not get one of those electronic, self lifting chair, they are really uncomfortable.  get just a  plain old recliner that is soft. you will be surprised how much better you will sleep.  good luck to you.  you will be feeling better very soon. vick

Thank you all so much for your replies and tips. I do have a recliner in which I sit as much as possible but sleeping in it is impossible for me due to my spine. I have tried the pillows to position my self differently but alas it didn't work ( my spine is a real mess:( ). Seeing I am an incomplete quad and 10 mins of walking before the surgery was difficult it seems almost impossible now so I actually walk 3 mins...sit 10 then do another 3 mins of walking.. go lie down, and repeat that over and over again untill I have a minimum of 30 mins of walking. It is not easy but then again who said life is easy right? I am so waiting for the day that I wake up in the bed and I am actually on my side ( turned over in my sleep) which would mean I actually got some rest!!... hopefully that day is not very far away:)

Thanks again.

Davina
