Not feeling good

Hi, my name is Sherita Epps and I'm new to the group. I'm scheduled to have the VSG on May 8, 2010.  I started my liquid diet on yesterday and have had a migraine ever since.  I'm tired, not hunger so that's a blessing, but feeling a bit under the weather from the migraine and hot flashes!

I had to stop my hormone replacement supplements last week and I'm having hot flashes in waves! It'sno joke.  It's hard to sleep during the night because I wake up hot and sweating and then I'm cold and it just continues...migraine too.

Have anyone had an experience like mine?  I'm wondering if the migraine is due to me not eating food and how long it will last.  I can't take my migraine medication and the Tylenol isn't doing a thing!

Welcome to our group Sherita! Glad you have found us, and i look forward to walking alongside you in this journey you are embarking on.

The headaches are a fairly common side effect from de-carbing. This usually takes about 3 days to get through. the tiredness is also very common during this time. Also getting off of your hormones may be contributing to both. But once you get through the intial 3 days, you should find that you will begin to feel better with the headaches and lethargy. Its basically withdrawl symptoms.

Wishing you the best of luck as you continue to do your pre-op diet. Keep us posted on how you are feeling.

Welcome to bariatric buddy Sherita.  I agree with Patrece on the source of the migraine.  I have days where the lethargy wins, this morning was one of them.  Praying that your headache resolves quickly.  Hang in there.  I had a similar haeadache during the first few days when I gave up my soda habit, withdrawl.  Yukkkkkkkk

I agree the hot flashes suck, I had them horrible before surgery and believe it or not, less since.  I am wondering if some of the daytime and evening sweating eposides were fat cell related.  I still have an occassional hot flash, not several a day like before surgery.

Congrats on getting a surgery date, looking forward to slidng this hinder over to make room on the loser's bench.  Is there anything that we can do to help your through the next few days?  Come share often, it helps.  Hugs

Hi Sherita, I'm new too and also just started my liquid diet.  I do have a headache and feel tired as well.  I've just tried to relax and sleep when I needed.  I usually take Exedrin for my migraines which helps me much better than Tylenol.    Be encouraged, you will make it.

Hi Sherita!  It does get better....promise!!  :)

Another thing, in addition to the de-carbing, it could be is caffeine withdrawl.  If you were used to having caffeine on a daily basis before the liquid diet -- even just a cup or two of coffee or tea or diet coke a day -- that would definitely contribute to the headaches.  Again, it will pass.  It just might take a few days.

Hang in there!!  In the end, it is so worth it.  :)

Thank you everyone for your support.  Today is day 3 and I'm feeling sooo much better!  I guess it was just withdrawal.  I'm looking forward to my surgery on Saturday, I can't wait!  Please keep lifting me up.  You guys are great and I pray that you continue to have success on your WL journey. Hugs.
