It seemed to me that harder I worked at eating healthy and following the rules and guidelines that I've adopted to help me NOT eat poorly and to control what and where I eat, the worse I've eaten. As if I'm rebelling subconciously. It really irritates me! I KNOW what I should do. I WANT to do it, but it's the exicution of my plan that I fall apart at. I even will tell myself to STOP eating, or stop the behavior that made me fat, and it's like I have no control, I just keep stuffing my face, or making poor eating choices. *sighs*
Just need to figure out WHY I'm sabatoging myself. Ya know??

Welcome to the group Suzi, I don't think I shared that above. I agree, expressing needs is important. I struggle with some of the same issues on a daily basis. As obese people, we have been feeding our issues for years, sometimes lifelong.
Time to take store of issues. What are you feeling as you eat something? True stomach is empty, running low on energy or boredom, anger, lonliness, fear, happiness, any other emotions??? I sometimes catch myself eating out of sheer habit, once starting to eat, wondering why did I pick this? If you do this, are you able to stop? Does one bite take care of the need?
Go ahead and have your one bite of something, but, and this is the big part. Truely and thouroughtly think about what you are eating. We had a session with the dietician last week at group wls meeting. She challenged us to do this exercise with the bite, we used a craisin during class for an example It took us 8 minutes to eat the one craisin and consider all these questions. Read the list before taking your bite. Part of it is eye appeal.
1. Eye - a mix of colors and shapes satisries this hunger. Beauty and presentation, look at your food.
2. Nose - before eating, smell your food. Notice how long you can taste your food after you've swallowed.
3. Mouth - key to satisfy mouth hunger is to be present at the party in your mouth. Variety in flavor and texture.
4. Stomach - don't mistake anxiety for stomach hunger
5. Cellular - are my cells hungry? For what? Listen quietly.
6. Mind - think of the Buddhist principle of the middle way.
7. Heart - Eat with appreciation and love. To live as a human is to experience suffering.

In all honesty, some of these kinds of hunger are easy to see, I had a hard time listening to my cells to see if they were hungry. It is amazing what can go spinning around in our heads at any moment. Eat to nourish the body, talk to nourish the soul.
Probably more than you expected. Just interesting things to ponder as we let things slip past our eyes and into our guts. Hugs
