Feeling sad

I don't know why so I will just blame it on the weather but I feel really emotional and sad today.  I want my daughter home so we can cuddle under the blankets and go to sleep but I know that I cant sleep.  How in the world do you have depression and insomnia on top of that.  I don't feel like eating either.

I just feel like nothing.   I think there is a storm coming too.  I can hear the wind blowing hard and some lite thunder.

I am gonna force myself to go drink and shake.  What is the amount of protein I need on a daily basis?

Right now I am pushing for 60g of protein, but I am post op.  So I think the average is 100?
I am not sure, so I'll let the pros comment on that.

Girl.. turn on some tunes and jam around the house.. Whatever you need to do to make yourself feel better.

Don't let the devil get ahold of you now! Your doing to good!

I do between 80 and 100 grams of protein a day.  I take two protein shakes for 60 grams and then between the salmon, yogurt, edamame, I get another 30-40 grams.

I also make sure I get 100 ounces of water per day. (Well, most days)

Hey Gigi...  Ok on the protein, it is between 60 and 100 grams perday. Even tho you are pre-op I would say to shoot for the 60 as this will better enable you to heal after surgery. its a good idea to always use extra protein prior to surgery.

As for being sad... ((((HUGS)))  You are likely starting to lose some fat and you are also detoxing from the carbs you are so used to. The Carb detox alone will cause an emotional reaction. Usually day 3 will be the worst, then it gets better. As far as the fat loss ...there are tons of chmicals and hormones that are stored in our fat cells. As we begin to burn fat this releases those stored compnonants too, which will affect how we feel. The storage of these things began when you began to store fat. So you may be suprised at how you may feel for a while as you begin to burn these fat cells. There is an entry about it in our group blog that will tell you more about how and why we get so emotional after wls. You can read it here...

Check it out. There are also many other posts that you may find helpful, like meds to avoid post-op and more...

But for now, be gentle and kind to yourself. Even pamper yourself a bit. And do those things that give you a pick me upper. Like the snuggles with your little lady..and the things suggested by the others.  I am so proud of you for being strong enough to reach out to us, share your ups and downs, and taking this step to get healthy and live long and happy.

Hang in there Gigi. Your body is going thru a lot of changes already from the changes in diet. You're almost to the point where it will be more adjusted to the new menu, and things will be a little better.

The emotional issues are a different story. Try writing down your feelings (somewhere just for you to read) about this diet, about your upcoming surgery, and about what changes you hope it will make in your life and why you are willing to go thru all this to make those changes happen. This journey is NOT easy, and can sometimes seems overwhelming. It helps to remember why we are traveling this road and what await us further down the path.

You are doing a great job, and you WILL be successful. Hanging out here helps a lot to. I don't have as much free time to pop in as I did in the last few months and I really miss it when I can't come everyday. But I come as often as I can, and reading everyone's thoughts, concerns, problems, and victories helps keep me going when things get rough, helps me know things I'm going thru are common and survivable (LOL) and sometimes I even get to laugh, or to cheer for others WOW moments.

Keep posting, and keep taking one step at a time on your journey!

Sounds like you are just having one of those days.  We all have them now and then.  After 12 years of dealing with insomnia myself I know that is making matters worse.

As for protein, I am told 80-100 grams per day.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

my doc told me to get 60-65 grams of protein per day. when i was getting over surgery he had me get 80.  never more than 100.  getting too much is hard on your kidneys i think.  don't get enough and your body starts attacking your muscles and your heart is a big old muscle.  insomnia is a sign of depression.  i have had it for many years along with my depression.  i am on meds for depression, you need to talk to someone if it keeps up.  good luck to you gigi.  vick

Hang in there Gigi, your hormones are starting the weightloss turmoil, read about that in the article Patrece shared.  I am so glad that you are here and sharing your story.  Writing does help with the moods, you will be able to look back on this when you need the lift me up.  Music can help.  Anything but feed the depression.  A
re you on medication for depression?  Most of us are, might be time to either start a med or do a small dose adjustment.  Check with your MD.  I will not be without my effexor, saves my life.  I turn into a blubbering idiot when I am not taking it.

I love the sounds of thunder and rain, works like a lulaby for me, best sleep in my opinion.  The others gave great answers on the protein, I have nothing new to add.  Get yourself outdoors for some fresh air if you can, exercise releases endorphins and endorphins give us a boost in the direction of feeling better.  I go through phases where depression rears it's ugly head, the exercise helps those times pass.  I can tell when I need the exercise most is when I want least to get up and do it.

Glad to see that you are forcing yourself to do some protein shakes, your body needs some nourishment to function.  We want you healthy to get through the surgery with the least complications.  Here to share your concerns, HUGS
