Good Morning Everyone
I just wanna say,,,Good morning to you all. And to let you know I have been bummed out is why I didnt post somrthing about this sooner...
My sister went for her RNY on April 12th, and it is unfortunate that the surgeon couldnt do it. She has cirrhosis of the liver. He done a biopsy in hopes that maybe that wasnt the case, but it was.
When I finally got to see her in recovery, he had just left from telling her about it, and she was pretty upset for both reasons, that she has cirrhosis, and that she couldnt have surgery. The nurses and I all tried to comfort her, but she just kept saying she wanted to come home.
I cant blame her at all for wanting to seek out the comfort of home. But they kept her three days, and she was feeling some better when she was released. They are sending her to a specialist to get something done about her liver, and she has put herself on a diet and excercise program at home, and we have a friend that is on the same diet, and goes to walk with her everyday.
We go to our PCP doctor on May 5th, and she will be referred to the liver specialist from there.
As far as whats up with me... I had read I would be very tired for a period after surgery, but I wasnt prepaired for total exhaustion at all. My whole body ached and burned really bad for about a week. It has just gotten better the last 2 days here. I still kind of feel dragged down, but I am able to walk upright now.
I have been getting in most of my water, protein and vitamins. Sometimes I take a nap and sleep thru the time set for me to take a couple vitamins, and I end up a dose of calcium short for the day. But as time goes by I will adjust to the schedule I have set for myself and all suppliments will be taken everyday.
Huggz to you all,

I am so sorry to hear about your sister. It is rough now but there will be point where she gains acceptance and has has the energy to deal with it
I'm also sorry to hear that you aren't doing all that great but it will get better, I promise. You just had MAJOR surgery. I think a lot of people including myself) really don't think of it in terms of being major because it's pretty much elective surgery. But this is big and you have to give youself time to heal and recharge. I didn't truly start feeling better until about 2 months out;
Making a schedule for meds is great; I had to do the same thing. Between the suppements and my regular prescription I have to split all this up in to 5 times daily. A pain in the ass, but must be done.
Take good care of ourself and I hope your sister hit the road to recovery real soon.

Ohhh Linda... I am so sorry about your sister. On both counts. How terribly disappointing to go through so much, and not be able to have the surgery done, AND get such scarey news at the same time. I know she must be devastated and I am sure you are as well. I will kep her in my thoughts and prayers that her condition is treatable, and she will find the stregnth and courage to face all of this.
You had the open procedure, and that takes quite a bit more recovery, and definately causes more pain and fatigue. Day by day, as you heal you will feel a bit better. Listen to your body, and rest as you need to. This will pass with time as you recover. You are helping your body heal well by getting in your supplements and protein. I am not sure if you have continued to be smoke free or not, but if you are not smoking, you will heal and recover much faster, as you have more oxygen available to your cells, and no nicotine getting in the way of healthy healing. Nicotine istself contributes to poor healing and possible skin / tissue necrosis.
Hope you are losing well and healing well and I hope for you that you feel better very very soon.
Hugs

Lost 114 lbs. working on getting rid of a recent 10 lb regain...and WILL succeed!
I just want to say how very sorry I am to hear about your sister. I hope they can find a good treatment for her. About being very tired...I can remember thinking I was never going to feel energy ever again.Buuuttt....hold on!!!!!! You are on the ride of your life!!!! I have more energy now than I have had probably since I was in my 30's. That's not all the time, but pretty much most of the time. My daughter told me the other day that she had not seen me feeling so good since she was a teenager, and she's 34. You just keep up the good habits that you are learning and you will be surprised how great you will eventually feel. Good Luck!! Roxie
Hugs for you and your sister Linda. So sorry that she is having trouble with her liver, hope the treatments help soon. You will have less fatigue as time passes. Surgery takes a lot out of a body and healing takes time. Pass along greetings to your sister. I still have a day here and there where the exhaustion overwhelms. Usually after working several night shifts with busy shifts. Do your best to get in the protein, vitamins and water. Pass on a hug for your sister and have her give you one from me. Hugs
