Made it 1st Day!!!

Hey all.  Sorry that I missed the open chat tonight.  I hope all is fine with each of you.

I am happy to report that I have made it through my first day on the liquid diet without incidence.  I am sooo excited and hope that I can do it tomorrow but I feel that I have made the dedication for me and am serious this time out.  Only 13 more days to go.  One thing that was really killing me was that everyone around me was eating even though they all knew that I was trying to get through this damn diet.  Today was truly a test and at times I felt like faltering but made it through.   It had gotten so bad that I was thinking that I should go to bed early to ignore the hunger pangs and the temptation.  My daughters pet fish for a moment there was a goner.

I made it through my fisrts day and the weird thing is that I didnt eat (drink) anywhere near what I should have.

Good nite ya" and thanks once again

Way to go!
Keep it up.  If people eating around you makes it hard.. try to leave the room for a little bit.
That seems to help.  That way you don't have to see them eating or smell the food.

Lol! I would have been jumping out of the car into traffic.  We were on the road.  It happened twice yesterday though.  I got "sorries" as they kept on chewing.  Good thing though is that yesterday is gone and I need to focus to get through today.  I am trying to clean things to keep me distracted from the kitchen or food.  In a bit I am going to go and read and if it is good enough maybe fall asleep but I doubt it.  Thanks for the support.

Congrats on making it through day 1 of the liquid diet. YES it can be very hard having the people around you eating and enjoying food while you cannot, but just keep the prize in the forefront of your thoughts. Like Ledaizey suggested, you may need to leave while others are eating. Maybe use that time for a short walk, reading, or a nice relaxing bath.

While it is not reasonable for us to expect those around us to sacrifice because we must, it is okay to let them know if they are doing something that really creates struggle for you, like bringing in very tempting foods. Ask them to put those things away out of your sight, where you will not be faced with temptation, as you adjust to this. Other than the necessary meals, you can even ask them not to eat "treats" around you and just explain that it is very difficult for you and that you know because they love you, you know they would want to help you succeed in improving your health and losing weight and making this work.

Hang in there lady! You can do this. It is not easy... never easy. But it is possible and so worth it in the end.

Hugs!

Thank you so much Patrece.  It was more annoying than anything.  We were in the car so there was nothing I could do but open the window.

I think that I am going to have some problems though because yesterday I only drank one protein shake (I decided not to do the Carnation Instant Breakfast because I have plenty of the Body Fortress). I had 2 bottles of water, 2 servings of sugar free JELLO, 8oz broth and 16oz low sodium V8.

Today I still haven't had a shake but have had a 16oz bottle of water, 8oz low sodium V8 and that is all that I will have before noon.  I think the hardest time for me will be the hours before dinner because I typically don't eat breakfast and consume the majority of my calories at night.  On second thought I will go and have a protein shake in an hour to help me get through till about 3pm so that I will drink another at about six.  I just don't think I can drink more than 3 shakes.  I make it with ice and water so it only contains 130 calories.  I will have to make some adjustments because I don't want to starve myself; just need to reduce caloric intake.  In a day I think I will only be getting in around 600 calories.  I am not a big big fan of milk which is why I am omitting it from the shakes but if push comes to shove I will add it in to get the extra 270 calories.  The thing is that once I have surgery I will be eating less calories than the 600 for some time until I am able to eat food again so ultimately it is one in the same.

In order to maintain my current weight I consume around 3300 calories a day and so with this diet I can anticipate to lose around 5lbs per week, possibly more.  We will see in 2 weeks.  I may possibly extend to 3 wks if necessary.

Please give me your honest opinion because I have put thought into how this is going to work for me.  Thanks so much again for your support because Lord knows I need it.

i have been on my diet for a week now and i get to have one meal that is 4oz of protein and a cup of veggies with 4 shakes a day and 64 oz of water. it equals out to eating every two hours which has been more annoying than hard. i dont eat that much in a day normally just would eat dinner then maybe a snack later after dinner. i am doing the ready mixed atkins advantage shakes. they have chocolate, strawberry, vanilla, mocha, double chocolate fudge. and believe it or not they actually taste good. my son even asked me if he could have a strawberry one for breakfast, he is 7...lol good luck it will go by fast and before you know it it will your turn on the losers bench :)

I missed chat too, but had a fine local live chat that I attended.  During my liquid diet, I would take the dogs for a walk during the meal time with the expectation that the food would be put away and the dishes at least in the dishwasher or handwashed to eliminate to kitchen odors.  My hubby felt like he was batching it as he called it.  He did do his fair share of fast food suppers when I was not cooking as often.  I offered to share the carnation shakes with him, of course he declined, huhhhhh???  The protein in the shakes helps keep the hunger pangs at bay, I did not notice that I was hungry at all during the pre op diet.  I did miss chewing, sugar free popsicles helped with the need to chew.

Do try to get in some shakes during this liquid diet, you need the protein to keep you in shape to come through the surgery in good health.  I have faith that you will make it through this.  I would do it again for the results I have been seeing in myself.  Catch you next week at chat.  Hugs

Hey..I hear you on getting in the early meals and th protein! It can be a hard adjustment to make for sure. I too was always an evening eater.. that is alot of  what contributed to my obesity. Body gos into starvation mode, and holds onto everything put in it later because it doesn't trust food will be available to it.\

To rev the metabolism and assure your body it will be fed, the best thing you can do is to get something in within 1/2 hour of awakening. This can be a protein shake, or any other acceptable items for your stage, which yours is pre-op liquid diet right?

I know this is very hard. despite what many think this is definately not the easy way out. There is no such thing. It is important tho for you to focus on getting in something throughout the day. this will important to your longterm success too. So try to at least gradually work toward this.

Not sure if this helps at all, but I hope it does!
