reason to celebrate

Last night, I realized that my BMI now puts me at "obese" instead of "morbidly obese"!!! I consider that a reason to celebrate, and can't wait to get to just plain old "overweight"! I know I won't be able to get to "normal" because I have a very large frame and would look skeletal at the weight the BMI and insurance charts list for me (about 145-150). My surgeon and PCP both set a goal of 178 for me. My personal goal had been 180, so I changed it to the 178.  I guess I'll see how that looks and feels when I get there, but I really can't even imagine being that size again.

Right now at 238, I am smaller than I have been in at least 17 years. My kids can't remember me being this size before, it's been so long. I still have trouble seeing much difference when I look in the mirror, but fitting into smaller clothes helps me to know that I really am getting smaller. It's funny that our minds still see us as the same. I know some people struggle with that for a long time before reality catches up and they really see their new bodies after reaching goal.

Anyway, I'm already feeling lots better and able to do lots of things that were tough or gave me out before surgery. And DH is starting to really enjoy the benefits I had promised him when he was against my surgery and sure I would die on the table, LOL.

Anybody else celebrating a new milestone?

Whooooot Toooot

Congratulations Rhonda, I applaud your success.  What a great WOW moment.  Yes, the mind is the last thing to catch up with reality.  We have seen ourselves as the former body for quite some time and it takes work to see the real results.    Doing the happy dance with you.  Hugs on your success ! ! !

CONGRATULATIONS, Rhonda!  What a wonderful reason to celebrate.  I think we always need to celebrate moments that make us feel happy, grateful, proud of ourselves....even if no one else can understand why in the world we would celebrate it!  LOL!!  I am so happy for you and the journey you have taken.  Be well!!  And I hope there is another moment to celebrate soon for you!  Let us know...we will celebrate with you.

Thank you Guayas. I agree that only people with weight problems like BB members would understand this being a reason to celebrate. But I DO fell happy, proud, and most of all, extemely grateful that I have been given this opportunity.

And I'm also extremely grateful that I found this site and all you buddies. Having support and encouragement makes such a huge difference in the ups and downs of our daily journies!
