My surgeon said I should be down 40lbs by my next appt (May 29).
So far I am only down an additional 10lbs.  and I will be a month out tomorrow.

There were a couple of weeks that I could not workout do to "issues", but to drop an additional 30 lbs in a month and half?  Am I doing something wrong?

I am getting in about 60g protein a day and eat mostly shredded chicken w/ lt mayo and a touch of mustard, cottage cheese, chicken noodle soup.  I am getting in plenty of fluid..

I am down a total of 71 now from my starting weight (including my preop diet).

I bike 4.5 miles twice a week, workout with my WII once a week and walk during my lunch hr 3 days a week.  AND I do some strength training when I am at the gym...

I read someone's posting on a different forum and she is down 90lbs in 6 weeks and she started at almost the same weight as me.

I need some advise from my peeps!

I ran into the same problem with my surgeon.  I almost cancelled my last appointment because he didn't think I was losing as much as I should and said if I didn't get down to 180 (from 220) in the 12 weeks to the next appointment we would be having "a talk."  I walked out of that appointment feeling like I had been threatened and was a failure.

You didn't really say when you had your surgery but 71  pounds is great!  Try keeping a food log; there may be some area that you could be doing better with.  As for the exercise I basically spend about as much time on it as you do and they said it wasn't any where near enough.  You may want to think about adding more cardio to your exercise routine.

Good luck!

I had surgery on March 16th.

I only eat a couple of teaspoons about 3-4 times a day of either shredded chicken with lt mayo (very little mayo)  or cottage cheese.  I have recently added mashed potatoes.

I mostly drink.  My protein and calcium are all liquid based, but I only get hungry a couple of times a day.

LeDaizey, to not let your surgeon get you down.  You have been doing great so far.  Sounds like you are on the right path with the exercise spread through the week.  Do not compare yourself to anyone else.  We all lose at different rates and have slightly differing groups of co-morbidities.  As long as you are giving your effort to following the program, you will have success.

Remember that you are doing the best you can for your optimum health.  I have faith that you will continue to succeed.  Hugs

LeDaizy, if your surgeon is making you feel that you have to starve yourself and/or exercise to the bone, he urgenty needs a refresher course in Nutrition as well as some new manners! Surgeons are the worst possible people for giving nutritional advice! That last comment was made by my therapist, it's not mine, and he should know, his father was a surgeon!
You have done a wonderful job dropping over 70 lbs so far. In comparison, I'm 2 1/2 months post-op and have only lost 45 lbs. Which I think is great, BTW, and so does my surgeon.
Your diet sounds, if anything, a little too strict, even for only 4 weeks out. Are you getting in enough protein? Your exercise routine, on the other hand, sounds great.
Kathy is right. Don't compare yourself to others, and focus on adopting healthy habits instead of on the numbers on the scale. This is not a race, it's a new way of life for the rest of your life. I'd be happier if you told me you are learning what is a healthy and proper way to eat and exercise than that you have dropped x number of pounds.
At any rate, I repeat, your weight loss is awesome already, so unless you are doing something terribly wrong, ignore your surgeon's rude comments.

Over 110 lbs lost!! (Finally!)

I don't want to give anyone the wrong idea. .and it sounds like I did.
My surgeon has never been nasty to me.

My comments are more about me being afraid that I will miss the goal that was set for me.

My surgeon is an awesome man and I truly like him and would never change to someone else (if given the chance).

About my diet being to strict... What else should I be doing??

Protein and water.  How much are you getting.  I find that when I can intake 80 to 100 grams of protein a day and drink at least 64 ounces of water, I tend to lose a little more than if I don't all other things being equal

Keep up the great work.  If you feel like it, get a hold of your doc and ask him what you may need to do.  I bet he will say be patient.
