just need to vent

So I had to make another trip back down to the surgeons office so he could cut open the top of my incision and drain it...yuck...so I am about to finish the antibiotic he gave me just in case of infection. It finally stopped draining yesterday. I am now 5 weeks out and I feel really weak and bad. It is so hard to get in all the fluids but I am doing better with it. I found out this morning what happens if you eat to fast...yuck...Knock on wood ..I haven't experienced dumping yet and I will do all I can to avoid that cause I saw what it did to my mom. One weird thing is my doctor said it is okay to use straws but I won't and he said it is okay to have diet coke so when I crave diet coke I limit myself to 1 oz just to stop the craving. NOTHING tastes good anymore. I spent days and days looking for low sugar stuff to drink. Water tasted awful even store bought that I used to drink a lot of. I still haven't found much I can drink that tastes decent except Evian water which I used to hate and baby apple juice which I use to take my medications. I am not saying I regret having the surgery but this is so hard and I knew it would be but you just don't have any idea until you actually experience it for yourself. I am on the blended diet now and at 7 weeks I am supposed to transition into regular diet. That should be interesting. I have been out to eat with my family and ordered off the kids menu and cut my food into small bites and only ate 1/4 of the items on the plate. I just feel that I need someone to talk to. Sorry for my vent but I needed to tell someone besides those I see everyday that get tired of hearing it. :-)

Amanda, you have come to the best place to vent.  I am here to be a shoulder to vent to and so are the rest of the group.  So sorry that you have had the issues in your healing.  Now that the drainage has stopped, the healing can finish.

I applaude you for having the courage to do what you need to do for your health.  Keep enjoying the dining out with family.  Sounds like you are doing the best you can.  Fluids will get easier with time.  I spent quite a while doing sugar free popsicles because they hit the spot for taste and crunch and counted as fluids too.

Come share often, it does feel good to have someone to lean on.  Hang in their friend.  Hugs

Wow.. sounds like you have had a time of it lately. I am glad they are taking care of things and getting them resolved. I have no doubt this has been a challenge and created much stress for you. Soon it will be resolved and you will feel so much better.

I LOVE nestle pure life flavored water. I am not a plain water person, and the flavored pure life is very tasty and enjoyable. No sugar no carbs either. Try crystal light as well. I am very suprised your wls doc allows diet soda.. thats rare.  There is an article on it posted in our group blog area if you are interested in getting more info on that subject.

Hang in there lady. Soon this will all be a distant memory. My daughter had several complications post wls, 2 requiring surgery to correct, but now that she is through that, she still says she'd do it again, even if it were to go the same way.

Vent away all you need to here. we are here for you. you are here for us. thats what Buddy's are for.
Hugs!

I can totally empathize with what you are saying. I spent my first 6 weeks raving like a lunatic to anyone who would listen or read! You are right. No matter how much you've read or thought about it, you are just not prepared for the post-op experience. Here is some hope, however. Things DO get better once you start tolerating solid foods, which won't take too long. Of course then you start worrying that you are not losing as fast as before! LOL It's a journey unlike any I have ever travelled before. Relax... soon you will be laughing with the srange episodes!
Take care and keep up the good work.

Sorry you are having such a rough time. It's all a lot to get used to isn't it? I think for me, the emotional/mental adjustments have been the hardest part. I was blessed not to have any physical complications, but getting used to eating SOOO SLOOOWWWLLYY and CHEEWWIINNGGG food to death so you don't get the horrible foamies is not as easy as it sounds. But it DOES get easier. I'm just a few weeks ahead of you and it's already a lot better. I'm now able to drink a lot more than previously and you soon will to. Hang in there and come "talk" to us when you need to vent!
