I Don't Think my VSG is Helping Me

I'm only a month and a day out from VSG surgery and I'm on my SECOND STALL!  The first one lasted two weeks then the scale finally moved two pounds and now it's stalled again!  I'm up .4 pounds since last Saturday!  I know that's miniscule but I DO EXPECT to lose weight every week after going through surgery that leaves me eating like a bird!!!

I know many of you have gone through this and I desperately need someone to tell me that I'm not going crazy.  I think I'm about to lose it - my mind, not the weight.

Losing weight before VSG was impossible and now with my VSG... I just don't understand.  Why?  Will I be the one to go through WLS and not lose more than I already have?

I need help!

i am not familiar with vsg.  during rny weight loss you need to make sure you are getting in all your protein, water and exercise. it is also important to eat.  have u tried callling your nutritionist and your surgeon?  also, i do know that this early out you shouldn't be weighing every day.  some days you will just be retaining fluid and if u are like me you will freak out  there is a section here under forums for the different type of surgeries. go to vsg from there and maybe someone there could give you more info.  however, i would let my doc and nut be the ones to rely on.  good luck to you. you sound pretty down right now and i guess i would be also.  take care. vick

Thanks Vic.  I only weigh in weekly (a recent change) so I really expected a change (in the downward direction!).  I was pretty down then decided to do some exercise and I went into the yard and did yard work.  Now today.  My body is sore but my yard is absolutely beautiful!  And to top it off, I did lose weight!  LOL!  Yes, I couldn't take it and I did weigh again!

Hey Ruthie!  I can sure understand your frustration and fear. Please try to calm yourself a bit. Each weight loss procedure works in its own mysterious way. Stalls are very normal. They will occur throughout your journey. Your body has to catch up with everything going on with it. There are a couple of other factors to consider too.
Water- if you do not get enough water / crystal light / sugar free cafiene free liquids in, your body will hold onto fluids, making the scale tell you you are stalled out or even gaining. Try upping the fluids, then if you are holding onto them, your body will release it.
Protein- if you are not getting enough protein, it can hamper loss too. Try an extra protein supplement each morning, within 1/2 hour of waking up.
Food- are you getting in all of the meals / snacks your surgeon or nutritionist advised? if not , be sure to do so. Starvation mode will cause stalls.
walks / activity- try to get at least 30 minutes of walking or other tolorable activity / exercise in daily.

Take a deep breath! relax...and know this is only temporary.
Hugs to you!

Patrece

Hi Pat:
You are so right!  I'm getting in all of my protein but not the water.  I'm getting in about 6 cups of water a day.  I don't seem to have time for more!  But, alas, I shall try!

Yesterday, i also got off of my butt and walked and then did yard work!  So, exercise in, food in, but only most of my water.

Hugs back!

Ruthie, hang in there girlfriend, this will pass.  You are still recovering from major surgery.  Vick and Patrece have great responses.  Know that I am here and thinking of you.  Each of our bodies responds differently.  Step off the scale for a few days and relax.  Come vent any ol' time.  Lots of hugs coming your way.  Hugs, Kathy

Hi Ruthie,

Please don't get discouraged this happens.  There will be stalls and then all of a sudden you can lose again.  You should call Sharon and see if you are taking in enough calories.

Hang in there it's not easy but it will get bettter.

Hi Toni:
Great advice!  Something Sharon said to me really rocked my world.  She said two weeks ago that since I started out light (213 lbs) that I won't lose all that much.  I may not even get to 160!  Needless to say, this really disturbed me.  Yatco assured me that I would easily reach 140!  So, which is it?

I see Dr Yatco (isn't he great?!!) in two weeks so I will ask him.

Hi Ruthie,

I would believe more of what Dr. Yatco says (he is great).  I don't believe you can compare everyone's weight loss the same.  Just continue with what you are doing and think of it this way, would you have lost this much so far in such a short span of time?

Keep you head up warm weather is coming and think of how good you will look and feel this summer!
