Surgery, Weight Loss, Stall, Reflux and a Question to boot!
Hi Everyone!
I'm sorry I haven't been around much but I've gone back to work after my surgery on 3/2 and I've had tons of stuff going on.
I'm feeling really good! Yay! I've lost about 23 pounds. I've had gastric reflux problems and had to return to my surgeon because I thought it might be a leak. Thankfully, it was reflux. Now on medication for that. Also, I stalled after 17 pounds lost for about a week and a half. I thought that was strange. It was only this past week that the scale started moving again.
Also, the Nutritionist put me on regular foods a week early because I found myself always hungry while on the full liquids. I was totally excited.
I have a question: about how many calories a day do you consume? I'm trying to figure out what is too little and possibly too much for me.

Ruthie, My nut has me working on high protein and not counting calories. Work to 60-80 grams of protein/day, all your fluids and supplements and then a little cooked veggie if you still have room. Let your body tell you, if you do not feel well, something is off.
Remember small meals will help with the reflux problem too. I have had multiple stalls that last a few days to a week or so early out. To break a stall try to increase protein, fluids and exercise. Gotta shake up whatever your body has become accustomed to.

The stall is so very typical. I hit my first at 11 days out and it lasted 1 1/2 weeks. I was livid! But it passed and I am now down 112 lbs! Some stalls pass on thier own, others, you have to help them along as kathy suggested above.
Until at least a year out it is watching the carbs and fat and getting in the protein and supplements and fluids and exercise. Once you get further out like a year or more.. and are adding much more variety to your diet and eating bigger portions, THEN you star****ching calories. (this is what most bariatric docs and nuts say). Talk to your NUT if you feel you need to watch calories, but honestly, its way too early I think.
For me, I had to chang how I ate. my doc had me on 3 meals a day, no snacks, no protein supp's. I had to go to 3 meals, and 2 small protein filled snacks and did much better, but even at that, once a month or so i would stall out for a while. Our bodies need time to catch up to and adjust to all the changes.
Glad you are feeling great! You are losing weight wonderfully! keep up the good work!
