Going it ALONE in 10 days! eeek

 Hi!
I just joined this group today and I just wanted to say hi! I am about to have Lap Band surgery next Wednesday. I am a single mother of one (almost 4 months old) and he is my motivation.

No one is able to go to the hospital with me because of schedules (and a lack of good friends these days) and I feel as though my mom, who is usually my biggest source of support, is just rolling her eyes at the idea of this surgery. She too is overweight and has many health problems because of it. I tried to tell her this will be good for my health in the long run, it seems her response is always a sarcastic "I wish you the best with that one".

I have a friend who is nice enough to drive me to and from the hospital but while I am there I will have no one there with me. I will be there Wednesday and Thursday and once I come home Friday it's just me and my son, Keller! I am sure I can do it but it sure feels like I am really alone on this boat!!

So, if anyone has any words of wisdom please pass it my way. I feel really alone but I know this decision is the best one for me!

Mary, welcome to the group, we are here to support one another.  So sorry that you do not have lots of physical support.  Do take care in lifting your child after surgery.  Post all your questions and needs here, we will do our best to answer or point you in the right direction.  Are you going to have time off work to take care of yourself after surgery?

As far as visitors, I had my hubby visit each evening, I was so tired from the walking and surgery itself that he watched TV while I slept.  I would have been even more tired if I had more company.  Remember to pack a tube of lip balm and slip on slippers.

Congrats on doing the research and making the decision to do what you need for improved health.  I wish I had done my surgery many years ago, what a difference.

So sorry for the lack of support from family and friends. Its sad. Hopefully your mther will come around to the idea of it and be there for you, at least to help with your child if nothing else.
The idea of it probably seems scarey to her, and maybe she's just a bit insecure that you are going to have this opportunity and she isn't  by choice or otherwise.
Please hang in there and know that there are many here *****late so well with what you are going through. We will support you the best we can from afar. I have no doubts you are feeling very alone, and its unfortunate it has to b that way. Just reach out to us, and we will do our best to be here for you.
If I were nearer you, I'd be there in a heart beat.
Hugs to you and your son.

mary, welcome to our group. i hope we can be the support and friendships you need and are looking for right now.

it is bad that you do not have anyone to support you now. especially when you get home. you won't really need anyone in the hospital, i didn't have anyone.  when you get home though that is another story.  lifting your son is the thing that worries me. please be very careful. tell your doc about this so he can give you some guidelines to follow. maybe your mom can at least come over to help with the baby.  you don't want to get a hernia.

let me know if i can ever do anything for you from afar.  take care.

Hi Mary :-)

Congratulations on making the decision to take this path!  As you go farther down this road, you will be able to look back and see - without any doubt - just how courageous and strong a person you are, my dear.  It's not going to be easy. I know this because I, too, am a single mom (of three) and I was pretty much on my own, but no matter how difficult it was at times, I would never EVER change what I did.  The five best pieces of advice I could give are to go easy on yourself, don't worry about the lack of support (you never know - it could change), trust that everything will go perfectly well, stay connected to support groups, and follow the program as directed by your physician.

And remember..... you are NEVER alone, friend.

Thank you everyone for the support! It truly does make a difference. It seems as though my mom may come around a little and is going to help me out with Keller in the days after surgery. It looks like Friday is the only day I will be alone with him and he's on 14.5 pounds so I won't have to strain too much to pick him up!
Everyone on here is so kind. It really does help knowing you are not alone!

Well I am off to my nutrition class and surgery is in 8 days wooooooooooooo hoooooooooooo

Starting at 218 and want to get to 135! heeeeerrrrrrrrreeeeee we go!!!!!

GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!

Today is a great day! My mother decided to take off work to take me and stay with me at the hospital (for a few hours) and then come watch my son and stay the night with him. A good friend last night offered to watch my son FOR FREE Wednesday and Thursday and I have a sitter for Friday! PLUS my mom is going to help me every night and morning AND next weekend.

SIIIIIIIIIIGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH of relief!!!!
