Gaining 30 pounds...

Just above all, be true to you. Lord knows i know how you are feeling and struggling.. Just don't want to see you have a bigger struggle later..
I do like kathy's idea... wear clothing that is very heavy, and stff those babies with rocks before you weight in....lol.

Maybe you should talk to the bariatric specialist again, and ask some very deep and honest questions of her. While talking to her, really tune in to your gut feeling about what she has to say, not just the hope her words bring, but if you really feel like she is looking out for your best iterest.

Please don't feel I am trying to discourage you. I'd never want to do that. I just really want you to check into it more, so you don't face further challenges. I really do care about everyone here in our group and never want anything but the best for all of them, including you. just want you to be informed honestly, and not have any monkey wrenches thrown at you.

Hugs

Thank you for that.  That was very comforting.

What kind of questions do you think I should ask the bariatric specialist?

Everything and anything that comes to mind.
Ask him abou the gaining weight to qualify, and such. He would likely be aware of how difficult or easy the different insurances are to work with. There may be a loophle he can find to get you approved without gaining the weight. Sleep apnea? Hypoglycemia, high blood pressure, family history of obesity related conditions.. etc..
Best of luck.

Well, I guess it is unanimous... we are all concerned for you, in taking this approach. I'd be scared to death to go about gaining this weight, and have the risk of not being approved.
Maybe we could all help encourage you to try to do this another way? If you follow the basic eating and activity principles that we do, but a bit larger portions, you may be able to lose easier than gain, and not take the risks of not being approved. Just a thought.

Hi Joann,
I do not think any one is saying the easy way out. In fact this is the hardest way out. The easy way out would be not to get as big as we all have that is the easy way out.

We are all concerned for you and want the best for you. Let me express my opinion and yes every one has one. For any doctor to tell a person to gain weight that is already over weight needs to be investigated. Maybe it is the nurse who is  your friend who is putting this out as this is what he wants. Well it may be that you do not meet the requirements to get this surgery because you do not have that high of BM. This is good news and feel proud that you do not meet the requirements.

There was one time I was over the BM requirements meaning back five years ago I was to much of a risk because I was too much over weight.
Now 100 pounds lighter then that time I do meet the requirements but since that time I can breath better but I now pay for it with pain. I was told by my doctor over  a year ago I needed this surgery done. I put it off wanted to think long and hard before getting it done. Took me this long and also be told that if I do not I probably wont see 55 or 60 that's five or ten years for me. I have a 5 year old. Not just about me any more.
Any ways once I have this done (done my home work on  this trust me) there is no turning back it is a life change. No more sugar no more drinking while eating very small portions like 4 Ritz crackers will fill you up to were it hurts if you try to eat any more no more drinking alcohol and that's not including what you will go through after the surgery I have probably read over 100 profiles on here on what others have gone through.  It is there to help us those who can not lose the weight and are in a high health risk and the hard way of doing things
What ever you decide please make it your choice not some one Else's and know it is a life change not a fad best of wishes to you if you ever want to talk or  need a friend just add me.

I talked to the BS (Bariatric Specialist) at my surgeons office about gaining the 30lbs and heres what she had to say.

I know FOR SURE that you have to be 100 pounds over weight.  that is the only requirement that has to be met.  They will not deny you at all if you are.  They only deny those under 100 pounds over weight.  No comobidities are required for your insurance.  Dr. Fath's will do the initial visit with getting your medical history.  Someone from Innova will be contacting you for any other paperwork.  Your insurance is very easy to satisfy.  That is why I said there will be no problems when you gain the 30 pounds.
