How do I respond to peoples comments...
Ok, so today it happened again. I come in to work and I am trying to resolve a problem and one of the ladies that I am talking to says to me, " You know you really don't need to lose any more weight.". Ok, I am not bashful and I must say that I am 22 lbs from goal but my bmi says I am still overweight and my physical number that I listed as goal is 150. I am striving to get within a normal BMI, that is what I want ultimately. The number on the scale doesnt matter so much to me but a normal BMI is my real goal.
Yesterday, my sister said the same thing to me, "you need to stop losing weight. I dont think you can lose much more." Yes, it is somewhat flattering but how should I respond?
Thanks,
Susan
I too hear this, even my surgeon told me to stop losing at 170. When I hit 161, he said, I thought you wee supposed to stop losing? I explained to him that I just really wanted to hit 154, which would put me at a normal BMI. He said.. okay, I can understand that, but then stop losing! I am now at 158. I also hear the same thing constantlyyyyyyyy from my mother in law. I just tell her that my weight loss has slown down to a crawl, and I probably will not lose much more, but if i do, I am going to happily accept it. I told her that I think its great she thinks I am thin enough to stop osing, but that I want to get to where I am happy with my loss and not to worry, that I will not let myself get tooo thin.
Most people, when they tell me that.. I just say, I'm almost where I want to be. Thanks! and leave it at that. Sometimes i even remind them that usually us wls folk**** a low then bounce back up 5 or 10 lbs, so I need to be to where I can afford to have that bounce back not put me too high up again.
At first I found it flattering.. Now i find it a bit annoying. I don't like to feel like everyone thinks they have the right to dictate to me what is best for me.. but I know they mean well, so I always make sure I respond a nicely as i can.

Lost 114 lbs. working on getting rid of a recent 10 lb regain...and WILL succeed!
if you're not where you want to be, then keep working at it.
I think some people don't want us to be their size, as it messes with the order of things. We are the "fat one" so we can't get close to their wt ever
