Kimmie,
I was a 2-3 a pack day for 35 years smoker who had to quit for surgery. There are many ways to do it; you just need to find what works for you. I tried the patches, chantix and nicotine gum and non of those worked. I ended up going to a hypnotist. There is no magical cure for ending the cravings but they will start to disappear on their own. The only thing you have to do is quit. I know that sounds stupid but you will never be a non-smoker until you stop smoking.
I belong to a really great smoking cessation support group and if you would like, I'll send you the link to the group. Just let me know via PM.
When I quit, I intended to go back to smoking as soon as I had the surgery. But I quit over 7 months ago now and I don't EVER want to be a smoker again. You would not believe the difference in how you feel once you've given those evil things up.
Good luck and please write anytime.

Hi Colleen
I had to giggle when you said " I intended to go back to smoking as soon as I had the surgery." That is so me... I am rationalizing the heck out of quitting in my head, trying to sooth myself/thoughts into accepting this quitting and not having it be so painful. I will PM you for the link :)
Thank you
