Post Puree Phase
Just starting the Soft Mechanical Phase. For those of you who take your lunch to work, what do you bring. Any hints or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I do have access to a microwave but was thinking of mostly cold meals I could eat.
The area I struggle with is the vegetable portion.
Thanks ahead of time for sharing.

Don't worry much about the veggies this close to surgery, get your fiber with benefiber if needed. Focus on protein, protein and liquids, just not with your meals.
Something soft that I like is turkey chili, sprinkle a little shredded cheese on for more protein and nuke briefly. Refried beans, salsa, greek yogurt instead of sour cream, shredded cheese, heat and spoon for yummy. Greek yogurt (looks and tastes like sour cream when plain, unflavored) flavor with a little splenda and some crystal light powder, sugar free jelly, fugar free coffee syrups. High protein and low carb and fat. Look for the unflavored ones to limit the extra calories from the fruit puree that they add (has sugar sweetener)
Then there is egg salad, without the bread. Tuna salad, string cheese, low cal yogurts, cottage cheese
Last night I had a small serving of turkey chili with cheese and a piece of string cheese later on.
Also check out the world according to eggface, Cleopatra_Nik, and Pam T. profiles for recipes. i am sure there are others with recipies, these are the first ones that pop into my mind this morning. Take care. There are also a few recipes in a thread near the top here on the bariatric buddy page and a recipe forum here on OH.

Steve,
Hi there! I have been eating a lot of chicken - put on ein the crock pot - cook it up nice and moist - then I dice it up - weigh out my 1 oz for lunch - often I eat it cold - with a little seasoning it's not bad! I have been eating mainly carrots for veggies - cook them up soft - dice em up - measure out 2 T and your set - eat them cold too! Then I have my 2 T of soft fruit. I'll change it up occasionally - but a chicken goes a long way when you only eat 1oz a meal!
ARe you still doing one protien shake a day? I usually use one of my snacks for the protien shake. With usually a piece a string cheese with some lunch meat for the other. So between those and your meals - you should be doing good on the protien.
Keep up the good work -
Christopher

I know the problems you are having. I am postop 3 months and it has been a challenge. I discovered weigh****chers smart ones like the santa fe syle rice & beans I can handle. Chicken has been giving me dumping syndroms. Get your protein because I have been lacking and know I am anemic.

Hey,
Thanks for responding. Interesting that Chicken would cause dumping. I have contiued to use a meal replacement shake (2 per day) that provides a total of 70 grams of protein. That way I can focus a little more on the water and be structured in my meals.
Hope things continue to get better for you.

I am big on cottage cheese and activia yogurt. They are so easy to prepare and both offer protein as well as calcium and other good stuff. I too enjoyed the refreid bean, some salsa mixed in, topped off with a bi of shredded cheddar. Yummy!
Wishing you the best of luck! How is your journey going for you?

Lost 114 lbs. working on getting rid of a recent 10 lb regain...and WILL succeed!
Hi. I'm just over 4 weeks out, on the "soft" stage, and saw my nut. today. After going over what I've been eating, she told me I was getting too many carbs in my protein/carb ratio and that it would slow my weight loss. I had planned to avoid simple carbs like mashed pototoes, SF puddings, cream soups and such, but found that I have depended on that kind of thing to get in enough protein in these first weeks (I add unflavored UNJURY to most all of it.) She wants me to concentrate on meat proteins and not soy or other veggie proteins at this time. She does want me to add 2 tb. of veggies, green beans, cabbage, squash, etc. which I have not even tried to eat because I was concentrating on getting in the protein and fluids needed. After my experience with foamies a few nights ago, I have been very hesitant to venture into new areas with meat. She recommended homemade chili with no or very few beans, egg salad, chicken in the crockpot with veggies and healthy choice cream of chicken or mushroon soup cooked with it,cheese, protein bars for those times when there's no better choice where you are (only Pure Protein brand) and however else I can fit in MEAT/FISH! Wish me luck and I'll do the same for you. : )
