4 Weeks Yesterday

I think you're right Patrece, work was too much too soon, but I was really needed. My supervisor has told me to come in and stay only as long as I feel up to it and then go home but that is hard when there is so much to catch up on. I still haven't had time to go get some iron, I live in the sticks and haven't had time for a trip to "town" this weekend due to neice's wedding today, lots going on. But I do plan to get some soon and see if that helps. I don't want to have infusions!

I am measuring my portions, but sometimes I find I can eat the whole portion and other times only 1/2 portion and can't eat any more, which is fine as long as I realize I've had enough before it's too late. Even my protein shakes are like that -sometimes I can drink the whole thing with ease, other times only half! I guess that will get better over time. I know my system is still healing and I'm just getting  a good start down this road. Thanks for the encouragement!

I've had a bad day today because it's been so busy, I have not eaten or drunk like I need, not nearly enough protein OR fluid. Trying to get some in now and determined to do better this week. I find I actually do better at work.

I hope you all have a great week.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference...

I find it interesting that you're having beef at all.  My doc said no beef or chicken for 6 months to a year.  I'd love to have a little hamburger.  What does everyone else say?

Marybeth,

Isn't it confusing how different docs give such different instructions. I can have any meat tolerated although they recommend no steaks or dense meat like pork chops for 6 months. Also no fresh fruit or veggies for 6 months, so no salads. I can have any canned or frozen fork tender fruits and veggies though. Mostly I don't have meats at all, although tuna salad is okay and I had a little browned ground beef in FF gravy that did well. I'm still kind of "chicken" to try to many things.  I know that will change as I go along. What were your other instructions?

I started out with clear liquids for 2 weeks, then added FF cottage cheese, FF cheese, FF yogurt, tofu (yuk), and eggs for 2 more weeks.  Then I added fish and beans FF.  I can have cooked vegies and a small amount of lettuce.  I just tried the salad last night.  I shredded the lettuce and used some spray dressing.  I made the mistake of eating asparagus last week - too stringy and when I had the vomits it wasn't nice.  After this I'm supposed to add one thing at a time.  I think at 3 months I can try hamburger, 6 months to a year chicken and beef.  Seeing as I've had problems with vomiting I think I'll follow the plan.  I did cheat and put some pickle juice in my tuna cause it was so dry to me.  It gave it some flavor too.

Good luck

So we have some similarities and some differences. My paperwork from my nut suggests adding pickle juice to the tuna or chicken salad for this stage. She also suggests hamburger, ricotta and spaghetti sauce (in tiny amounts, naturally) as a "spaghetti" substitute. I'm not supposed to eat stingy vegetables right now, even cooked. Beans have been allowed since pureed stage for me, but I haven't had many just because my gas issue was bad enough already (that has improved thankfully!). The shredded lettuce sounds really good. I'll be glad when I can have a small salad.

Good luck to you to!

Yes the shredded lettuce tastes good in the tuna.  I mixed tuna, low fat mayo (the non-fat tasted horrible) and some pickle juice with some of the shredded lettuce - was really good.  I've backed off the vegies for now.  Will start slow again.  Just trying to get the protein down.

Are you working out? What do you do?  I went to the gym tonight and walked at a pace I could handle.  I went to water aerobics 2 weeks ago and I think I pulled a hamstring.  I had to stopped everything for a week and now I'm ok.  I guess there were too many lunges in the water.  She was tough.  If I try it again I'm not going to do it at the pace she does it at.

Take care.  Hang in there - you'll be doing better soon.
