Home Sweet Home!

Yay!  I'm home!  Surgery on Tuesday (VSG) went well and today I was released to come home.  Eating has been challenging.  I don't feel full, I feel tight.  That worries me but I'm hoping that after the swelling goes away, I will get a full feeling again.

The actual surgery was more complicated than anticipated.  The doctor encountered a lot of scar tissue from previous surgeries and it took him a while to get through all of that.  But, the actual VSG went well.  In total it was 2 1/2 hrs.

With the prep for surgery and the food deprivation that goes along with that, I have already lost weight.  From 213 to 205.  Funny.  Even though, I feel huge!  Must be the swelling and my wobbling like a Weeble around the house!  LOL!

Thank you all for your prayers and support.  You are a fabulous group!

Ohhhhhh Congratulations and welcome to the losers bench! (I'm sliding over and patting the spot beside me for you to join us here!) WOWEEEEE you have dropped alot quickly! Off to a very hearty start in the weight reduction for certain!

Yes you are very swollen from the surgery, in a few weeks most of it should subside. It will go away gradually. Funny you should say weeble.. thats my nic name for my lovely granddaughter! (There's a story behind the nic name, but too late to tell it now.. I am beat!). Every day you will feel better and better. The most important things right now are these:
Sip sip sip...then sip some more. It is easy to dehydrate at this stage, and that is not good.. also it helps flush the toxins and lipids (fatty gunk) out of your body, from the excessibe loss you are experiencing now.
Hugs! Welcome home!
Take several little walks daily, even if just around inside the house. this will help get rid of the gas in you, that is adding to the bloated look and feeling, and also help prevent clotting.. very important!
Rest when your body says it is time to rest. Thats when the most healing occurs!
And if your doctor advised it (some do not.. hmmm) get that protein in.
Hugs and welcome home!

At some point I'd like to hear the story behind the Weeble nickname!

I'm sitting hear at 3am - apparently still on hospital time.  I hardly slept with the nursing staff asking for blood, finger *****s, etc. and a horrible roommate.  So, when they said I could go home, I was ready in 10 minutes!

Thanks for your tips!!!  As soon as I read 'sip, sip, sip' I stopped reading and went to get my Propel.  If I have to drink, it might as well do something good for my body.  I'm on a Full Liquid diet but I'm a bit scared to eat that just yet.  Maybe tomorrow.  Anyway, although I mostly had clear liquids today, I did get in about 3 ounces of greek yogurt today.  It felt so good in my mouth!

Strange question - I find that my urine smells funny.  Is that normal?

Welcome to the losing side of surgery Ruthie.  The funny smell may be related to meds in the hospital, but to be safe, call your surgeon in the am to double check.  Any signs of bladder infection get in to the clinic.  I notice a funny smell when I have asparagus.  Love it though and not willing to give it up just for a little odor.

Greek yogurt is high in protein.  Are you flavoring yours?  I just had a small cup flavored with ocean spray white cran-peach powder, yummmmm smelled as good as it tasted.  I usually use about 1/2 of one of the stick packets of flavoring for a 6 oz container.  Hugs

Thanks for the heads up about the hospital meds and the urine smell.  It is gone now but it must have been the magnesium they gave me thru IV.  I didn't have the smell before that and I had it after I came home so it must have still been working its way through my system.  I asked them why they were giving that to me and it was because my blood test showed that I was low.  Okay....

I love Greek Yogurt!  I add splenda, cinnemon and vanilla extract.  It's soooo good!  For dinner one day, I'm thinking of adding curry powder.  I hope I still like curry!  LOL!  Right now, a meal is only half of a 6oz container of yogurt.  That's so little and a bit sad.  But, it just means that my delicious yogurt lasts me for another meal!

I've lost so much weight - at least in my estimation.  Is that normal?  From 213 before surgery to 196.6.
