And the hits just keep on coming

I'm sitting here hoping that my computer doesn't die on my again.  We've been having problems all day with internet connection and the phone.

I had blood work done last week; they took 12 vials of blood.  I got a call from the surgeon's office and also from my PCP.  I am dangerously low on B-1 and apparently, that can cause permanent nerve damage.  I am also very low on Vit D which they wrote me a prescription for.  That's the good news.  They have just diagnosed me with gout.  My uric acid levels are just about off the charts so they have given me a drug that will hopefully help with that.  I have been trying to research this on the internet between the times the modem keeps dying on me and there is a school of thought that says high uric acid levels may be a cause for vertigo.  I'm going to try and keep looking into it.

Food has been pretty good today so that is a good thing and I did manage to lose another 1/2 pound.  We just did our taxes and I'm going to talk my hubby into getting me a bicycle.  It will have to be an adult tricycle because of the balance issue but it's been beautiful here the last two days and perfect weather for a bike ride.

I am very grateful that with all these things cropping up this week that I have a) had a place to vent and b) been able to keep my sense of humor in tact.

I hope you all had a good one.

Ohhh man oh man... i am so sorry you have all this at once. I have to ask.. are you taking all of your supplements as you should be? If not please please do. Also wondering.. is it B-1 or b-12 you are very low on?

Gout can often be caused by certain foods we eat. They may have you eliminate some things from your diet. I have a friend with it and they had to make a few dietary changes. One of them you have probably already made, and that is fried foods.

You hang in there...get in those vitamins and supplements, and get to feeling better soon. I hope you get your bike! Keep venting and sharing! we are here for you! Congrats on the 1/2 lb (thats 2 sticks of butter ya know!)

Dear Coleen,

I'm so sorry about your Vitamin problems and especially about your gout diagnosis. My father had the gout from a very young age and it was painful in his hand and foot joints but he kept it under control more or less with medicine. As far as I know, the gout is an autoimmune disease and can be made worse by the wrong foods but I don't believe that foods can cause it. I may be wrong.
My best wishes for a speedy recovery,

Colleen, sorry about the vitamin deficiencies, but at least now you know and can work on getting them corrected. Gout can be very painful and can also be hereditary. My grandfather, uncle, and mother have it. My mother was even misdiagnosed with rhumitoid arthritis because her gout mimicked some of those symptoms. After months on a dangerous drug for that problem, they decided that it really was gout after all, because people with RA are not supposed to be able to have gout and she definitely did. You have been thru an awful lot lately - don't let it get you down! You keep posting and let us know how things are going. You are in my prayers!

Hugs,
Rhonda
