measuring wrong! And Question??

Well, I missed the chat AGAIN for Monday.   Grr!
I found out today that I've been measuring my food wrong, I've been going by weight instead of by volumne.  Darn it.
I am starting my solid food this week and I'm kind of nervous.  I was also wondering If I have some whole wheat carbs with my protein, should I or should I not have veggies or fruit as well?

Other than that, I've lost 15 pounds so far.  That definitely keeps me going.

What does your doctor say? I would if I could stomach it, why not?

My doctor said knock it off and weigh by Volumne.  LOL!  I haven't had my first fill yet, so I am able to eat without vomiting, but I want to get used to the "right" amounts so when I am "filled" I will be OK.

Well, you have your MD's opinion on measuring volume. I would stick with the proteins and avoid the carbs at this time. I find that I am OK with no carbs till I start, then the carb monster rears its ugly head and oh Myyyyyyyyyyy.

Does your doctor say it is okay to have the whole grains already? It is healthiest, if you choose a carb to choose fruit or vegetable sources for now, until you get more used to your new eating style, as the grains can really trigger the carb cravings of all kinds. Of course if your doc is okay with it, then just use the grains in moderation. And to actually give you the answer you were looking for, as i haven't answered the real question.. If you choose grains as your source of carbs with a meal, do not add to the carbs by adding any fruits or by adding any vegi's that have much if any carb content, which most have some, but stick with the very very low carb content ones when having the grains. Carbs are a lot of what got us where we were to need the wls, s just be very careful. Also stay aware of things you eat that trigger cravings, then avoid them like the plague in the future. Hope this helps.

It is my understanding that a balanced diet should include some complex carbs such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains (all unprocessed, of course). Frankly, I haven't been able to eat a fruit yet but I hope to be able to soon and fruits are a great substitute for the cakes and sweets we used to eat by the ton, just as whole grains and nuts are a great sbstitute for the potato chips I used to eat by the ton. My own surgery VSG doesn't require a special diet, of course, it allows everything in moderation (except sweets and chips LOL). Each type of WLS and each doctor may have different requirements, so the surgical team - surgeon, nut - are the only ones who can give us the final answer.

Usually with RNY and even Lap band, they encourage us to wait until 4 to 6 months out to start incorperating the whole grains into the diet, but this is not always the case, depends upon the individual docs. Would be so much easier to help guide others if they would adopt an eating plan that was used by all surgeons for each specific procedure.
