I was a bit hungry, went to the vending machine, found a cobb salad, had egg, chicken, bacon, cheese and ranch dressing. 400 calories!! you would think a salad would be healthy! of course I could only eat less then a quarter of it, so it was less then a 100 calories but wow...400 calories for a salad!

Anything that has egg, chicken, bacon, cheese and fatty dressing should not even be called a salad! Maybe "complete meal in a dish with a bit of green for show"?

exactly! LOL, the other stuff was worse though, pizza, subs, biscuits and sausage...and my tummy does not tolerate breads at all! Oh well, I could only eat a quarter of it, so it was about 100 calories...but wow...LOL

400 isn't really that much for a full meal. had lots of protein and that is good. leave off the dressing and i bet it was a lot less.  do u vsg'ers have to worry about protein like rny'ers do? vick

oh yeah, protein first, put the dressing on it, but ate around it I hate dry salads, but since I am on maintenence now...wasnt too worried and could only eat about a quarter of it...but salads, you think low calorie...but that wasn't, since I average about 800-1000 a day, that was about half of daily calories if I ate it all! LOL

Hi Char,

When it comes to salad, it's almost always about the stuff that comes with it; not the lettuce.  Lettuce by itself doesn't really have much in the way of nutritional value; the calories almost always come from the way it's "dressed up."

But I still think you did great by selecting the best available option.

Nummmm lettuce sounds good right now. Crisp crunch. Maybe for supper, I think I have part of a bag in the fridge.

I too think you did the best you could given the choices, so good for you! I often try to pick out some of the more calorie and fat laden items in a chef salad. i eat a bit of it for the protein and nutrition, but just a bit.

You choose wisely. Were you at work or??? maybe you need an emergecny food stash that has all of the nutrition you need in it, at a calorie allowance you can live with?

thanks all, yep Patrece I was at work, and I am not usually hungry at work, but i usually have something I can eat there, just forgot to restock this week...LOL...I am just amazed that something you would think to be low calorie was so high...but it did have a lot of protein in it, like 22 grams for the whole thing, but only eating a quarter of it, I got maybe 8 grams or so? LOL
