Vomiting - help

Ok.. Please keep me posted on how you are. What do you do at the hospital? Are you one of our many group nurses?

No I'm a psychiatric social worker.  I work with veterans who have mental disorders.

Well I took less of my pain pills last night and went to bed at 8:30.  Woke at 2:30 wide awake so here I am.  Strange but still feel as though my stomach is in my throat.  I'm wondering if it is my hiatal hernia or my esophogus that is having problems from the vomiting.  I thought if I swallowed less pills I wouldn't have any problems with the vomiting, unfortunately - that means I'm not as sedated for my insomnia.

Well today is another day - we'll see how things go with just clear liquids and my protein drink.

Last night was not good.  I vomited up about 1/4 cup of my protein drink.  I'm not so sure it's my pouch.  I'm wondering if it is my esophogus.  I've had problems years ago and I'm wondering if the pills that I take aren't too big.  I cut my sleep meds into small pieces and eventually was able to get them down.  I stopped all other meds except my anti-depressants this  morning which I also cut up.  I took my prilosec capsule apart and put it in applesauce this morning.  So far so good but I've only had my protein drink this a.m.

Just be very watchful! You are in the prime zone for strictures to form. Hoping this all passes for you and it happens soon!

Good news is that I was able to keep down my protein drink and a little tuna yesterday.  Bad news is that I woke up every hour last night.  That's two days in a row of little sleep.  Had a bad night emotionally too.  Had a good cry this morning and hopefully the day will be better.  Feeling frustrated with doctors.

Marybeth, I am so sorry for all that you are going through. I take it the doctors are not doing much to see what is happening with you? Have you tried seeing your pcp? I wonder if some of this could be related to your emotions being in an uproar due to everything thats happening? I know sometimes when i am very upset, I can't eat or slee well. Man ...wish i was a doctor so I could help you here more. But know I care and feel so bad for you. I am here to listen and help however I can. Keep on keeping me posted please. You are in my prayers.

I did originally call both the surgeon and the PCP.  The PCP was out of town until next week.  the nurse said it was "common for vomiting with this surgery".  show's how well she's informed.  Anyway the vomiting stopped and last night i took the Ambien my shrink prescribed, liquid Vicodin, along with my trazodone.  Slept better.  Less wake ups.  Got up at 4:30 a.m.

I went to the pharmacy to get the liquid Vicodin and Prilosec.  Had to wait an hour for them to make the  liquid Prilosec.  Tried it this a.m. and thought I was going to puke.  Taked like pure brine.  Think I'll try swallowing the pill again tomorrow.  Also tried the Liquid Benydril last night.  How do children take that swill.  Go**** was horrid.  Only got half down that I was supposed to take.

I talked with one of my nurses here at the VA and she said that going off the Gabapentin can cause withdrawal symptoms - insomnia, depression, irritability. So I think that maybe some of my sxs are due to not taking it.  Who knows.

Feel better today and that's what counts for now.
