Newbie
Hello all,
I am very new to this but wanted to say hello and I look foward to everyone's support and help. I am officially scheduled to have RNY on May 3rd in Puerto Vallarta with Dr. Joya.
I just recently turned 50 and have struggled with my weight my entire life. I have been able to get some of it off but never keep it off. I never feel full which scarese me a bit.
My family and friends are wonderful support. My mother and daughter will be going with me on the start of my new journey.
I am also wondering what brand of protein you would recommend? Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.
I look foward to keeping up with everyone's progress and hope to have extra support here as the same time.
Regards,
Shari

Welcome Shari! So glad to have you join us here. Your story sounds oh so familiar! So many of us share it. Be sure to ask any and all questions you may have. We will do all we can to help you through your journey.
I like Unjury brand protein. It is a very high quality protein and highly absorbable for us RNY"rs. Congrats on your upcoming surgery! I look forward to getting to know you and traveling your journey with you.

Lost 114 lbs. working on getting rid of a recent 10 lb regain...and WILL succeed!
Welcome to the group, Shari! I used to live in Westland (Ford and Hix area) but now live in Lincoln Park.
I turned 49 in December and part of my decision to have this surgery was a choice between accepting how I was and continuing to live my life the way I had been or go for "50 and Fabulous." I chose 50 and Fabulous. My husband and mother were and are very supportive of me and my decision.
I had my surgery at Henry Ford Wyandotte in September. So far I have lost 70 pounds and am starting to feel good for the first time in a very long time.
I hope this surgery turns out to be everything you hope and dream for. Keep posting and let us know how you are doing.

Hi Shari, I use body fortress when I make a protein shake, right now trying to get most of my protein from foods.
I turn 48 in May and look forward to more weight loss in the mean time. My husband joins me when I can talk him into exercise. I feel my best on days that I get a good sweat at the gym or outdoors walking the dogs. Living in northern MN, praying for an early spring to be outdoors more. Today the high temp was 18 degrees.
Do what you can to start the habits for after surgery now. Separate fluids from meals by 30 minutes. Shift to a salad size plate, eat slowly. Do what you can for daily exercise.

Hi Shari and welcome to the group. Congrats on your date and glad you have family support. I also use Body Fortress from Walmart {choc. and vanilla} and Unjury unflavored. I found the Body Fortress to be not only cheaper but it tastes much better than the stuff from GNC that was over twice the cost. I sneak the unflavored Unjury into everything I can think of to up my protein intake. I'm almost 3 weeks out and my tastes have not changed a whole lot as far as I can tell. Follow Kathy's advise about starting to make new habits now - it's great advise!

Thank you all for the warm welcome and for the information. I look forward to spending more time on the forum. Will be absent for about a week as I am leaving for Guatemala on a Medical Mission next Friday.
I have started making healthy changes and starting to implement some of the things that I have learned so far into my everyday living.
