Hi all - I'm in Dubai - so it's about 80-85 at the moment and starting to get hotter so the challenge here is to go out and exercise early in the morning or later in the evening.  Mind you this is good - in the summer it will reach 120-130 and that is HOT !  Yesterday was quite dusty as the sand was blowing across the road in some areas which is fun to watch but not to be in.

I do miss frosty crisp mornings in the UK - though they are still suffering with snow etc from time to time and the roads/trains/airports don't always cope.

Hope you are all doing well - just over 2 weeks to my VSG surgyery and I can't wait to get started on my journey.

Take Care
Debbie

Debbie, is the Dubai heat dry or humid?  Guessing dry if the sand is blowing.  We had 2 days in the 80's last August, didn't really seem like summer.  When it does get up into the 80's it is also humid, ughhhhh.

I would love to learn more of the culture.  So very different from here in the uppermidwest of the US.

Looking forward to the day you get your surgery.  Hugs

HI - it's a dry heat at the moment but in the summer it gets more and more humid - to the point that the windows on my balcony get steamed up and we can't see outside which is strange.

I have been in Dubai for a year now and love it - lots of interesting things going on and a fantastic mix of different cultures and nationalities.

It's a Muslim country so you have to be sensitive to the culture and religious side of things - it's not too strict as Dubai is reasonably tolerant but it does mean that as a women you have less priviledges than in the UK - for instance if I want to work I have to get my husband to complete a "NO OBJECTION LETTER" for me - the same for driving and having an alcohol licence !  There are also limited places to get pork so that's become a real treat !

From a weight point of view - there is every sort of fast food going and obesity is a big issue here although hardly anyone would own up to having surgery as it's not really the thing to do - although lots of people are having surgery !  Fast Food is so cheap here, and everybody delivers any type of food to your house so you can become really lazy.  On the plus point of view Arabic & Lebanese food is relatively healthy so it can be good for you.

From a lifestyle point of view - we are spoilt - most people have maids (we don't) and get their cars washed by hand every day.  The service here is good too - you don't have to leave the car to fill up with fuel which is a novelty for me - and something I have to remember to do when I go home otherwise I look odd sat in the car waiting !

We have a lovely time, we are the beach most weekends, and have been camping in the desert quite a few times too which is great.  We do have to contend with the really hot summers and also Ramadan - so no eating or drinking in public between dawn to dusk for a whole month - which is a bit of a challenge - you can eat/drink in private but all the coffee shops/restaurants close and in 100 plus degrees of heat its hard to keep hydrated.

Anway, enough of Dubai for now !

Regards
Debbie

Thanks Debbie, I liked learing more about another culture.  Hope to get installments from time to time.  We here in the states need to hear of other places on this earth.  I have lived within a small area, relatively speaking, my whole life.  Not to adventurous on the travel.  I have lived in the same state, although MN is a pretty good sized state, all my life.  I was born about 300 miles from where I live now.

Try your best to stay hydrated.
