Carbohydrates and Stress

Help!!!

My stress level, work and personal, is off the charts right now.  But... I'm not that far out of surgery (Sept.  30) - and I'm finding I can not only tolerate carbs (crackers, sweets (in sm. amounts), bread, etc.) and I'm "grazing".  My surgeon's office has said time and time again that the best way to handle the wls battle is 3 meals and 1-2 planned snacks.  And to focus on protein.  My pouch prefers carbs.  I'm still getting my protein, but it's the extras.  I didn't lose this week and last week's was a small amount (1 pound).

Can anyone help me?  I know what I need to do and I continually resolve to do it, but then I revert to the goodies and grazing.

Maybe try adding more fiber (.e.g. Benefiber) to your diet and drink lots of water.  I tend not to be as hungry in between meals, but when I am I choose sugar free popsicle, bread and butter pickles (made with Splenda), Almonds or soy nuts.

Do you excercise enough?
Regards,

I do benefiber every day and get AT LEAST 70 oz of water.  Your choices make a lot of sense.  I know if I eat a healthy snack, I do just fine.

Exercise?  I'm sporadic.  About every 2-3 days I get on the exercycle.  I guess that would help, and i need to get more regimented with it.  Thanks for your response.

I am sharing your same issues Mary.  I feel like I need to go back to the basics for a few days.  Let's do this together.  Kevin know what to say when I need a boost.  Just got back from salking several blocks with the dogs.  36 degrees and sloppy out there.  Oscar loved playing in the puddles, just like a toddler.

Just had a salad with sloppy joe meat on it.  Satisfied for now.

PM me is you need to share issues.  Hang in there friend.

Thanks, Kathy.  I am going back to basics, too.  Until I get the chance to IM you, let me just say your support is appreciated!

I also tolerate carbs and fight grazing.  One thing I do is try and stay away from bread and stick with crackers.  I also try to get some beans into my diet (refried) as they have protein, fiber and help tame the carb monster.  I also keep SF cookies around and have done well with limiting myself to one a day.

We had our surgery on the same day 9-30 and my weight loss also stalled for a bit, but don't get discouraged.  It is bound to slow down some even before the honeymoon period is over.  I have lost 6 pounds in the last two weeks and I do believe it's because I've been getting a little more exercise in.  It will really help to burn calories, boost your metabolism and will also help to relieve some of the stress your are experiencing.  I also find that they less I want to exercise, the better I feel when I do.

Good luck!

mary, i know about grazing, but i do it on purpose. my doc has ordered me to be snacking all the time.  i need to gain weight. what worries me is i can eat anything, carbs, sweets you name it.  i also worry about when the honeymoon is over after 18 months.  i just hope i won't gain because i'm doing what i am supposed to be doing now and will develope bad habits.  you said you know what you need to do. why don't you dig out some pics of you at your highest and post them on the frig, cabinet door, cookie jar, etc. maybe that would help. good luck to you.  vick
