Dumping syndrome

Being that I'm new to this I have a question for those of you that have been at this a while.  When one experiences dumping - is it immediate or can it happen the next day?  I tried a new food - shrimp, less than a teaspoon full last night and today I have diarhhea.  Has anyone else had this problem?

Marybeth, usually dumping happens shortly after the offending food, although everyone is different. Dumping is related to consuming high sugar or high fat foods. Depending on cooking method, shrimp does not quality as a source of your diarrhea. Protein sources should not cause dumping unless the shrimp was highly breaded and dee fried. Hope you feel better asap. Hugs

Marybeth,

I wouldn't think that shrimp would cause it.  But I also didn't realize until I read Kathy's reply that too much fat would cause dumping.  It's so hard, especially in the beginning to determine what is going on and why.  I'm 4 months out and I still don't understand some of the things my body does or the way I feel.  Hang in there.  When that weight comes off it will all be worth it.

Nope the shrimp was grilled.  Maybe it was bad shrimp - but like you said, I would think it would have happened right away.  Who knows.  The problem seems to be gone so I'm not going to worry about it.

Thanks Vick - Everyday is a new experience but I'm doing better each day as far as getting in the required water and protein.  No progress on the back, neck, knees.

I know we can't take NSAIDS or any anti-imflammatory meds - any suggestions on something else that would work?

Like Vickie said, hope you are feeling better! Could the shrimp have been marinated in a sugar based sauce maybe? Or maybe they were just bad shrimp like you said? I'm still on liquid diet so haven't journeyed into those waters yet, but shrimp is one of the foods I have been looking forward to eating. The protein shakes get old fast when that's almost all you are allowed.

Thanks everyone for the response.  It stopped after two trips to the restroom - so I'm not sure what it was.  Could be a fluke.

Hang in there  Rhonda - when you get to eat a few things they taste like heaven.  I used to drink Pro Complex protein drink prior to surgery and now I can't tolorate it.  I'm using Premeire Nutrition Protein drink sold at Costco.  Has 30 grams of protein in one serving.
