Well, the date is quickly approaching! I'm new to OH and this is one of my first posts..... I'm having a sleeve and am looking forward to joining the losers!

Does anyone have any experience with the guidance on lifting "weight" post surgery? I have a 2 y.o daughter that I'm going to have to try very hard not to pick up for how long?

The usual for lifting after any surgery is 6 weeks.  Check with your surgeon.  At 2 years old, she will be able to crawl up in mommy's lap for snuggling.  I was also told, no carrying things like laundry baskets or grocery bags.  It is amazing how many steps you can add to your day by carrying only what you can easily lift in a hand, walked the laundry up and down the stairs a couple pieces at a time, got my hubby to carry an occassional basket and all the grocery bags.  I wasn't doing much cooking for myself, not too many bags to carry. lol

jennifer, welcome to our little family and contratulations on your upcoming surgery on the 17th.  hope all goes well, i will be scooting over on the old loser's bench.  about the lifting. all i can tell you is that  i got a hernia about 2-3 months out from lifting a cinder block.  of course, i had open surgery. i would questions my doc about it, believe me, you don't want a hernia.  be sure and post and lot.  you are now a part of the support system and just because u haven't had your surgery yet doesn't mean you aren't a valuable member who can help others with emotional support or with info you might have.  on mondays we have a bariatric buddy chat session in the bariatric buddy chat room (see to the right).  it is 7 eastern, 6 central, 5 mountain and 4 pacific.  you can meet some nice people three.  good luck to you and let me know if i can ever help you. vick

Hi vick, thank you for the welcome, congratulations, and room on the loser's bench :)
I shared with kathy in email that I have not shared my plan with many people; therefore, I am looking forward to being part of the support system family and will be sure participate not only with posts but also with chat session. I'm nervous but not hesitant as i am so looking forward to leading a healthier life.

What was the first few days like following surgery?
