about staying dehydrated- plz read
i want to tell you about liquids. take the weight you are now and divide that by half. this is the amout of liquids you should be drinking now. with a minimum of 64-80 oz early out from surgery. if you get dehydrated it is very dangerous, so please try real hard. popsicles, jello, broth, protein drinks made from water, decaf coffee or tea, all these count towards that goal. caffeine is very bad, it actually dehydrates you. for every cup of caffine you drink you have to drink two cups of decaf to make up for it and to help reach your goal. please take care of yourselves. i care. vick

Thanks for posting this Vick. I never realized that there was an actual formula for fluids like this. I don't get anywhere near enough fluids. Do you find that it's hard to get food in around the fluids? Based on the formula, I should be drinking 107 oz. of water each day. My surgeon says caffeinated coffee is okay (thank goodness for that!) but that's about all I'm getting. Plain water hurts my pouch. I need to go back to drinking Crystal Light but can't imagine drinking 107 oz. daily. The only other thing I drink is a very occasional diet Wild Cherry Pepsi which is my favorite thing on the planet. I know we aren't really supposed to be drinking cola products because of our calcium requirements, so I really do keep it to a minimum.
It seems that there is always room for improvement in our weight loss journey.

Hi Colleen, It is great to have a formula for the fluid needs. I find that I feel the best when I have more fluids on board. Alternating between water and crystal light, this week water has more appeal. I am no where close to the 130 oz of fluid I should have. I do get in around 80 oz each day. Shooting for more fluids while at work. I do have a cup of liquids at my side while at home.
Getting in the supplements, working on the protein needs. Now increasing the exercise and fluids. Doing what I can to bust this plateau I have been stuck on.

kathy, i don't measure my fluids any more. i do my protein. i have this wonderful book i got at the grocery that tells the protein per 3 oz serving of all types of meat, fish, pork, poultry, and veal. it is great. it only cost 2.99 and it also tells very simply how to cook it. i make a gallon pitcher of decaf tea about every day and i drink 1/2 to all of it each day. at 9 pm i switch to jus****er when i am at home. i drink jus****er when i am out of the house. my doc made a booklet that had the info in it and it sure has been helpful. vick

Vickie is there any way you could scan that little book and send it to me. [email protected] is my email address. Im always looking for helpers.
colleen, get in at least 80 oz of liquid and you should be ok. but as your weight drops, don't drop a bunch of liquid. my doc made up a booklet and this is the info he has in there for me. he also says no carbonated drinks because of the expansion in the stomach. go figure. just try to get in a lot of liquids. sounds llike u are almost at goal with your weight at what it is. that is great. vick

I had been a big liquid drinker pre-op. I averaged 2-3 liters of water per day plus 1 liter of Diet Coke and other liquids as desired, not counted. I find I can't even come close to that any more. My stomach just won't hold that much and if I try, I get nauseous. I do sip, sip, sip all day but it's scary when after all that sipping I haven't even gone through 3-4 glasses of liquids.
