Vitamins -- Totally confused!
I've been reading posts for weeks and all the vitamin posts are confusing the crap out of me. Does anyone have a list that is pretty standard that I can work off of? I'm in this to get healthy and I think I need extra vitamins and supplements to do it. I would really appreciate any help anyone can give me....
Thanks!
Carolyn
PS..I'm starting off, as of right now, iron deficient anemic before I even start..so I know I need extra iron and there is a good chance I will be getting iron supplements via IV on a regular basis.
Carolyn, each surgeon has a specific list that they want their patients to use. Some even sell the vitamins. Mine gave me a written list with the first educational session. My surgeon's list is as follows.
Option #1
Each day take 3 chewable multivits with iron added or 2 adult chewable multivits. Take them separately during the day, preferably with food. Take 3 chewable calcium citrate (500 mg each). Take them separately during the day. Every other day take one sublingual vit B12 (500 or 1000mcg).
Option #2
Take 4 optisource chewable vitamins and minerals supplements, Take one f separate times dueing the day.
Additional vitamin and mineral tips.
Do not take vitamina and minerals on an empty stomach. Take calcium with a source of vitamin D to absorb it properly. If you take extr iron, take it at least four hours from the time you take your calcium. Do not take calcium and synthroid at the same time. Take them at least four hours apart. Do not take vitamins and minerals with tea or coffee.
Hope this helps. Do what you can to boost your iron count before your surgery. Check with your MD for directions.
