Embarassing but need info, post RNY gas!!!
I had RNY 9 days ago and have terrible, horrible gas. I have only read negative things about this online and was hoping somone had something good to say. Like it will pass (LOL) with time. Any remedies. I can't go back to work like this. I work in enclosed tight quarters with very little personal space. This is horrible and very worrisome. Anyone out there who can shed some light and give some advice is needed.
Well first.. welcome to our group! And congrats n your surgery. Second.. sorry to say, it likely will not pass anytime soon. I am 1 1/2 years out and still deal with it.. Sorry..not want you wanted to hear! It will pass alright...but it just keeps right on a passing..lol.
Now the good news is this... There is a product called Devrom. It doesn't eliminate the gas, however it eliminates the odor. You can check it out at the website www.devrom.com As far as ridding yourself of the gas altogether, you may talk to your doc about this and see if you can safely take gas-X, or something similar. Not sure on this one.
Good luck, i know it really stinks to have this trouble! (yesssss pun intended) lol. I understand your concerns with returning to work. It would be just embarrassing as all get out. Hope this helps!

Lost 114 lbs. working on getting rid of a recent 10 lb regain...and WILL succeed!
I am afraid so. Just the odor, which if you are anything like me, that will be a welcome break for your nose and those around you.
Ya know what I just thought of, mylicon. It may be just the thing to help you with this. It is so gentle and safe, it can even be used for babies! It does help eliminate the gas. Maybe a combo of the two...just to be safe>? Best of luck..

Hi Newbie, first of all congrats on having the surgery and recovering. Welcome to our family of buddies. I share your smelly gas issue. Also work in tight quarters. I work with a bunch of nurses, have been very honest about the increase in gas/odor since surgery. Shared with them to not follow me when I go into an empty room. The odor was so bad I had a hard time standing myself. Now that's baaaaaad.
I ordered Devrom online (over the counter product/ no Rx needed) this is the same supplement that is for those that have had bowel surgery and need to wear a bag to catch stool. Another smelly issue. The devrom helps a lot, still have the gas, just not as offensive. I am trying to pick out and see if any foods make it worse, no luck with that yet. Takes a few days for the devrom to start working, I stopped taking it while waiting for a replacement shipment, and oooolala. Ughhhhh. The pills have a banana odor to them, not at all offensive. And reasonable $, look them up on line. No local pharmacy carries it on the shelf, then I did not ask the pharmacist. Start with the lowest dose and taper up to the desired result. I now order them several bottles at a time to not run out.
You should see my yorkie leave the couch quickly when the gas escapes. I would rather be passing the gas than bound up and bloated. Time will tell how bad your gas remains. I at 5 months and will not be without the devrom.
How is everything else going after surgery? When are you headed back to work? Tolerating the liquids and protein? Sliding over to make room for you here on the losing bench. Never thought I would want to be part of a group of losers, but I am grateful that I am a losing. hugs, Kathy
