I am SO TIRED

Hi everyone,
I am now 16 days post RNY, but I am so tired, it's unbelievable. I sleep well, take my son to school and just came home and slept till 1pm, and now have to go and get him again. I have done this maybe 3 times post op.

This was what I used to do pre surgery after bingeing on food, going into a "carb coma". Now, it is exhaustion.

I was so energetic the first week, but am wiped out now. Does this last? I have no energy to go for a walk even though I have the best intentions.

Help and advice needed please. -
Becky x

Becky, this will pass.  Your body is stressed from and healing from surgery and shocked by the lack of calories.  Used to much more being provided by eating.  Listen to your body and rest.  Get in more fluids and protein as able and you will soon start to have more energy.

Take care, hugs, Kathy

becky, your body has been through a major deal.  rearranging your innards and disconnecting others.  it takes time for your body to heal. you need to get rest, but by the same token, you need to walk. you don't want to get clots or pneumonia by lying around all the time.  doesn't have to be long walks at first, but you do need to motivate several times a day. yes, it does get better, it just takes time. good luck to you. vick

Are you taking your supplements (vitamins and minerals?) Also be sure you are getting in the protein. You are tired because your body is in starvation mode. Be sure to get in all the supp's and protein as you should and plenty of water. As your healing progresses, you will feel a bit better. Part of this too is probably those "old" hormones bveing released into your body as your fat cells melt away! Listen to your body and rest, but be sure to get those steps in too.

thanks all,
thanks for taking the time to answer,

I am most definitely getting steps in, I have a 5 yr old (crazy one, lol - who even had his pal over for a playdate after shool) and do all my housework, grocery shopping, go to the park etc, go to my neighbours. It's just the extreme tiredness - I didn't expect it, so long after surgery.

I am taking my supplements religiously, although I did skip on water and protein a bit today as my pouch was aching -  and I slept for so long!!!!  I will be back on it tomorrow.

as long as this tiredness is "normal" , it make me feel better getting feedback that it is.

- the starvation mode rings true with me, thanks Patrece. I smiled at all my fat cells melting :-)))

I love it love it whe  that happens! (fat cells melt!) hehe
Hang in there. It should get better. Ohhh if you are not taking a sperate iron supplement, try taking one. And be sure B-12 is also on your list. A lack of these can cause fatigue as well.  It will get better, but if it is very bad you may want to go to your pcp and just get some labs done and see if there is something  you may need a bit more of. I recall that I usually had a bit more energy when I was on a plateau, than when I was losing rapidly. Watch and see if you notice tha as well.  But then, the frustration was as bad as the fatigue..lol... whats with all these negative "F" words in our lives? Fat...frustration, fatigue... Think once we get that first "f" word under control the others improve quite a bit. lol
Have a great day.

thanks Patrece,

today is so much different - I feel alive, hee hee. Even after being up all night with my son who has a bad cough :-(((, ,

all systems go!

I think I am losing "rapidly" as I am losing about 1lb every 2 days,  - it's fast enough for me anyway. Oh, I can't wait for the plateaus, I will beed serious advice then.

Becky xxx - you all have a good day too.
