hi, i have not had my surgery yet, i have not even had my initial consult.  Because of my schedule i had to do everything in reverse, all my tests and appts before my consult.  I do not understand why protein powder etc.. i know i have incorporated protein bars into my diet, but when i am reading, it looks like many are talking about post op for protein,  i know i cannot do a shake, my tummy is very sensative to some stuff, i'm worried cuz i do not understand "the protein thing"

Hi, lots of us can not get enough grams of protein in just eating foods.  Not enough room in the pouch for the needed proteins.  The foods we need for maximum weight loss after surgery are proteins.  Your surgeon/nutritionist will work with you to get the number of grams of protein in each day.  Most MD's start with 60-80 grams of protein and adjust as needed based on individual needs.  If you can not tolerate shakes, visit with your dietician to find appropriate foods that you can tolerate.  I find that I have more energy and feel better when I have a protein shake each day, two if I am super busy and do not have time to prepare something else.

I also like cottage cheese, sliced cheese, refried beans, turkey chili, some use deli style thin sliced meats.   Variety makes it possible to get in the needed proteins.  Work with your provider to do what you need to do to improve your health and weight loss.
