Anyone have trouble (now or ever) being motivated to exercise?

Ok, so in my head i am always trying to work myself up so i can do some type of exercise.  It never works, i don't do it.  I'm not sure why-what am i afraid of, it can only make things better.

So at night i work at a hotel and i had a strange idea, when i delivered the bills, i will use the stairs. Normally i use the elevators, but tonite, God helped me.  i am having problems with my bronchitis right now, so i told myself if it gets to much i will stop and take the elevator.

I did all levels,  i started on floor 1, then up i went, there are about 16 stairs between floors.  when i reached the 5th floor, i took the stairs all the way back down (which is easy-right) then walked back around the building.  My legs burn a little, but in my 2 years here, i have never used the stairs to go up only down.  I feel like it's an accomplishment, even if only a small one.

I plan to do this each night.

ps. I also decided my ass is way to lazy at home, so instead of sending my dtr up and down the help with the laundry, i did it myself.  I think i made about 4 trips in my house today, not many stairs but i was much more active then i normally am

WTG.   The stirs will help you.   The burning in your legs means you are doing good.
Invest in a wii system and get the wii fit plus.   There are so much fun and you don't relize you are excrising.   They are so great.

Yes, I have a hard time being motivated all the time but what helps me is to think about all the good its is doing me and how much I love good at the end result. I workout at least 4 days a week now doing some type of exercize.

You are the bomb.... You made trhe first step. You just gotta tell yourself you are going to do and then actually do it. Before you know it will be a breeze for you.

She is right about the Wii. They are so much fun that you dont realize that you doing something good for you and having fun. Who would of thought!?!?

Way to go on finding a way to get more movement into your day.  Exercise does not have to be a  class in front of a mirror.  Find ways to move your body during the course of the day.  Simple strengthening exercises can be dome by using cans of veggies from the cupboard, start small, increase the weight as you improve.  Even filling empty milk jugs with increasing amounts of water will work for upper body toning.

I am proud of you for finding ways to move during the work shift.  Congrats, small steps make for a healthier Shawn.  Hugs, Kathy

Shawn,

You are definitely not alone on this one.  I have a very hard motivating myself to get to the gym.  I am limited as to the kind of exercises I can do because of my vertigo and the treadmill is a real challenge for me.  I did manage to get myself on there this morning.

I have also been climbing a lot of stairs here at home.  Every little bit helps.

Hey lady! I think you hit on a subject that relates to 75% of WLS patients. We all lacked in this area I'd vemnture to guess, or we likely wouldn't have gotten as out of shape as we did. Learning to get these new healthier things implemented in our lives is hard.. no two ways about it. BUT once we fight through the inial struggle and make ourselves start it gets easier and easier. I can tell you this from experience. BUT in all honesty I also have to say that when all heck breaks loose in life and we get away from it, it is a realy struggle to get back to it as well.

I think the easiest approach is to gradually begin to incorerate it, and as it becomes less of a challenge, then it is time to add more or increase what we are doing. This way it doesn't become overwhelming. I too struggle in this area. I was doing great! Then things got nutz and I got out of the habit. I was till getting tons of ctivity in doing other things tho. But when those other things were complete.. I failed to get right back into exercise. Fell out of the habit and am now working to get back at it regularly. Being at kathy's was great! We hit the gym everyday I was there except the day I arrived and left. I intend to continue getting it in daily here. even if I do not go to the gym, I will use my Wii or go for a walk outdoors.

One step at a time.. don't overwhelm yourself...then increase as the challenge lessens.
