Hi All,

I am in the process of completely my approval process for  the lap band procedure.  They drew my blood work last week and my parathryoid level was elevated.  Anyone with any experience with this and does it usually delay your surgery approval?

Looking forward to my journey ahead.

Thanks

Welcome to the group.  I have never dealt with this myself either, but it seems to me that they would expect to find some things out of whack in the bloodwork.  For me, it was protein, vitamin D and folic acid and pre-diabetic.  I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I'm glad you found us!

Hello and welcome!
I too did not experience this. I am not sure how or if this will affect things. They may just do further testing, or maybe it is something that is related to the obesity. Just don't know. Sorry!

Good luck as you prepare for this most amazing journey! Nice to have you  here. Keep posting and let us get to know you and support you as you embark on this life changing process.

Hi and welcome. I had my blood work done at my annual check up just prior to beginning my WLS process back in October. My thyroid level was also elevated (not sure if that's the same as parathyroid?) and my doctor said when it's elevated, that means you have low thyroid and need to take medication to icrease it. She said mine was right on the borderline,  and I could choose to start thyroid meds or wait until having my bloodwork done again to see if there had been changes. (She also said I would probably  lose some weight if I took the meds.) I told her I'd rather wait since I was in the process of pursuing this RNY and I didn't want to do anything to mess that up. When I asked my surgeon if it would cause any problem, he said no. Next Monday I'm scheduled for my pre-op exam and bloodwork and hope all goes well.  By the way, my Vit. D level was also extremely low and she put me on the 8 week prescription dose of 50000 units a week. That seems to be a very common problem these days and the thinking is that it is contributing to a lot  of other problems. Sorry for such a long response, don't know if it helps you at all?! Good luck with getting your lap band!

Rhonda
