Ok.. I need to vent.. just a little bit.

It is looking like my surgery will be in March.. (Yeah)..
However, my family who was so supportive at first is now not so much.

It's like thought I was going to see this through. Now they are like... your gonna puke a lot, you'll have problems, are sure this is really what you want???

I talked to both my sister and my mom last night and neither were as excited for me as they were 5 months ago.

I would really like them to show me more support, and I even told them that, but all I got was...
..silence... and then "well it's your body, you have the right to do whatever you want with it".
and honestly it really upset me thinking that I will not have the support at home...

thanks for letting me vent

ledaisey,

They are just afraid of the unknown. I'm sure one you get the surgery and you're in the thick of it they'll be supporting you.  Especially when they see you slimming down.  It *IS* your body as they said.  You're doing this for *YOU* and not them.

: )
Regards,

Yep.  It's their fear talking...or in this case, NOT talking.  It's so easy for people to see the risks involved in surgery yet not see the risks of living an unhealthy obese life.

It looks like I'm looking at late February or March also.  Whoo Hoo!

Hi Ledaizey. I'm getting my WLS in a week or so and I have the exact same problem. DH was all gung-ho at the beginning but lately he keeps telling me not to do it. My sister said, Oh well, I guess you're gonna die soon then, and my brother won't even talk about it, he is so scared. If my neurologist and my psychologist weren't so encouraging I'd probably have stopped before I started. The truth is we just lost our mother in October and being the oldest my siblings are afraid of losing me too so I don't blame them. The point being that our families WILL be here for us, they are simply afraid of the surgery. And at any rate, we have each other right here!

Ledaizey, I agree with the other replies.  Fear does strange things to people.  You have done the research, talked with your surgeon, and completing the rest of the hoops insurance places in your path.  Before my surgery my husband swayed in favor and not in favor of my surgery.  Now that I am done with the surgery and making great strides in losing the excess weight, he is very supportive.

I am here anytime you need to vent.  We here at bariatric buddies are here for online support.  Hugs, Kathy

Yet again.. another agreement with the above posts. they are worried,  it is getting closer so they are trying to protect themeselves and you. While thats nice and all that they love you, they most likely have no clue how hard thier attitudes are making this on you. Don't let anyone derail you. I know it would be awesome to have the best possible support from them, but if they are not willing or able to do it at this point, reach out to us and those who can and will support you. They will likely come around.. they just have to see that you ARE doing it n matter what, and they cannot change your mind or decide it for you.
It may be best at this point, to not even discuss it with them unless they bring it up, then if it starts going in a negative direction, put an end to the conversation. thank them for thier concern, but stand firm!
