Calories per day?
Hiya everyone,
Just how many calories should we be haivng per day?
I know at the hospital the dietician told me to have 97-117 gms of protein depending if I am excercising or not.
But since I started at one surgeon and ended at another I never got guidlines on how many calories to have per day.
I just started journaling today and seeing all the calories adding up.
: )
Thanks.

I was told to not count calories, focus on getting the needed protein and fluids. We do need some calories for out bodies to function. Just to focus on quality proteins, then have fruits and veg. There is ususally not room left over for carbs after getting in the protein and fruit/veg.

I too was told until after a year not to worry about calories...BUT before a year and during the losing phase it should be around 600 to 800 per day. (this is an average, and for men it may go as high as 1000 a day). Now for protein, I was told and most surgeons say 60 to 100 grams per day. At the higher end if you are more active. Again, based on your muscle mass and personal physical exertion, this too may vary.
I am going to be writing in my upcoming newsletter about how nutritionists and doctor calculate your protein needs, so you too can do so. (this newsletter is free if anyone else is interested in receiving it.)
At this time in your post-op period tho, it is encouraged for us to focus on the protein, water, and avoiding fats and sugars and eating low carb. When those guidelines are followed, due to the small amount we can ingest, your calories should not be of concern.
Hope this helps!
