The more research I do on vitamins the more confused I get. Do any of you that are years ahead of me have any suggestions for us newbies, I'm sure I'm not the only confused one here... I do understand it depends on what your eating and drinking.

I seem to be following you around...lol =). So I have been freaking out about bariatric vitmains for awhile now AND I found an awesome site to order from. www.dietdirect.com. If you order of 79 the shipping is free, over 99 they take 10% off, and I had code 35525A which gave me an additional 10% off. so I got $120 worth of stuff for 80 after all the discounts and such. I chose to go with bariatric advantage. I just got a 90 day supply and after that i will hopefully be able to swallow my vitamins and get them from where I work, www.swansonvitamins.com. lol Cuz I get them at cost, which is awesome! I hope this helped you =). Btw, I haven't heard of optisource, but here: http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/ND/3364415/optisource-vita mins/  they discuss them. Hope this helps. =)

i wouldn't take any other vitamins in place of my bariatric ones.  it is just toooooooo important. i am a year out (in a couple of weeks).  be sure and talk with your nut and doc about this. this is one place you shouldn't skimp.  vick

I am not familiar with optisource vitamins. What I can tell you is that all vitamins are not created equally, especially to be able to fill the needs of most bariatric patients. Bariatric vitamins are made specifically for us. But beware, not all are created equally. Bariatric vitamins should include very high levels of supplementation, as this helps allow for the malabsorptive component of our procedure. (meaning we do not absorb nearly what we put in..this is part of what allows us to lose so much weight so quickly). Bariatric vitamins are suppoesed to be specifically formulated as well, to be as easily absorbed as possible by our now malabsorptive systems.

I have tried a few brands. My personal favorite is from www.bbvitamins.com  (building blocks) They are the best tasting in my opinion, and also offer a capsule form which is made tobreak down and absorb quickly. They are more affordable than many brands, also offer free shipping with a minimum purchase (I think) they offer free samples, and are one of the highest quality bariatric supplements available. Followed closely by Bariatric Advantage. However i believe BA is a bit more pricey, unless they have gotten more competitive over the last year.

I take (all in bariatric specific form) multi vit, iron, calcium. Then i also do a b-12 injection once a month, but sublingual works well too. A B-complex is also urged my many surgeons.

I hope this helps. Good luck. This is one of the challenges of this journey is getting the info you need to make the best choices.

Tina,
I have decided to purchase the Bariatric Chewables for after surgery (it is a 2 mointh supply) and have bought the 21st Century ones they recommended for beyong that. They are a little bigger, which scares me alittle, but I think I am going to just break them in half when I take them (same with calcium). You can get the 21st Centruy Multi for Women at Pamida here in town.  Best wishes! Christopher
