hi to all mt new friends I'm new to this whole site as of a week or so ago not even sure how i got in on this bariatic buddy thing  lol I think i hit  a button by mistake but its a blessing in disguise cuz i love it all. The advise it great and all the info is amazing. Okay so on to my question. I have problems with Acne I'm 40 years old and thought i out grew that sage many moons ago. I'm on a prescription for it after trying tons of things. I hear after WLS people are seeing more and more acne problems occur cuz of hormones... Is there anything i can take to prevent this problem or just make it less of a problem?? Also since I'm hear my daughter who 19 had WLS back in July. She used to Love milk and now can't seem to drink it. We tried that lactose free milk and she didn't like that either any other suggestions?
My surgery date is Jan 28th so any advise is appreciated

Thanks to you all for the warm welcome
your new friend, Tina

Hi Tina, I hadn't heard that wls made acne worse.  Hope yours improves after surgery.  Yes, tastes change after surgery.  Try soy milk, try adding lactaid (for lactose intolerance), add acidopholis (adds good bacteria that will help to digest milk.  Check with your nutritionist, if nothing else works, milk may have to be something that she just does not tolerate.

Tina.. I never had acne until I was preganat with my second child and 21. I am now 43 and still have it although not sever, but it is so annoying to me. I'm like ok acne AND wrinkle starting? Make up my mind! LOL.
WLS never seemed to affct my skin, other than it being a bit more dry, due to taking in so much less fat in my diet. I just use a good lotion, when I can remember to. My face still gets a little oily, but better than before wls actually, now that I think about it.
Now I wouldn't doubt if it can result in increased acne for the first couple of months, if you have been heavy since you teens. Because as our fat is metabolized it does release stored hormones that have been accumulating since the fat started accumulating. This can also result in mood and emotional changes for a while. There is an article on this in our blog to the right -->

I have thought about asking my Dr for acutane to get rid of the oily and blackhead prone skin problems, but that stuff can be wicked! Best thing I have found is to use a very gentle skin cleanser and wash my face 3 or 4 times daily.

As for the milk, many people who have had wls find that after they cannot tolorate milk well. Like Kathy said, lactaid can help. But she may just have to get her calcium & protein from other sources. I am hoping she is taking a calcium supplement, as we really all should do this even if we do tolorate milk. I notice too since my RNY sometimes I cannot tolorate eggs, and other times I can. strange. the first few months I was fine with them, but after that, its always the luck of the draw, and I know within my first bite or two if they are going to sit well or not.

Congrats on your soon to be surgery!

Thanks to you both i have to say this web site is great spell check and all...Face book doesn't even have spell check... Patrece, my acne started while i was PG with my first child like you i never had it as a teen, never washed my make up off before bed even (as a teen). It may not be as bad as most but like you said 40 and acne, what's up with that...I have read that vitamin H or Biotin supp. have helped or is that for hair loss, i done too much research in a short time and am starting to get it mixed up... Ya that's for hair, right?
As for my daughter shes not to good about taking her vitamins so as for now I'm encouraging her to take at least her multivitamin twice a day along with her acid reflux pill. I could just spank her not taking the vitamins seriously.... shes 6 months out and so far her blood test have come back good but as time goes by it will catch up to her i can only pray that she gets into a routine.
I'm hoping with both of us popping pills for supper maybe it will get her going although she's not home very much these days...We have the same doctor and i did tattle on her so maybe he'll have more influence on her during her next check up.

LOL.. yep Biotin is to help with hair.
I know people who have lost bone density and also who must have iron transfusions as a result of not taking supplements. None of it is fun! Nerve problems can arise as well if b-12 not being taken. And as a young woman, I am willing to bet she'll want a baby someday... she needs to stay as healthy as possible.

My daughter used to be bad about takeing hers a well..and I rode her butt. She had RNY almost 2 years ago now. She is 3 months pregnant with her first baby. I bought her 3 months worth of supplements (multi, iron, calcium, and b-12) AND constantly remind her. told her if her blood work starts reflecting thats she is not taking them I'll torture her. lol. She has been pretty good about taking them since she has found out she will be having a little one. she doesn't want to risk the health of the baby in any way, so thats a plus!

The acne stinks! If you find out how to eliminate it..please share! lol

Yes I too buy the vitamins for my daughter. I even told her if see doesn't take them, that the insurance company may come back and bill her for the surgery since she committed to taking them before the surgery and knew it was mandatory and the doctor of course can tell what she is taking and what she is not by her blood test they do at check ups. That last again another week or so. Not much more i can do but sit back and wait for it to catch up with her and maybe refuse to buy her flowers when she ends up sick in the hospital. lol It's just that now she feels so good so shes thinking its okay.... Maybe her hormones went back to the more immature stage when she was 13 since the rapid weight loss all those fat cells are getting flat. I read that article from you the other day on hormone changes...
