Feeling a bit better

This morning I am not nearly as "full" feeling. So I am going to try and stick to the sample menu for full liquid phase. If I can at least get the protein shakes in, and some water in between i will feel accomplished. Food can be introduced slowly.

My stomach is still a killer pain when I go from laying to sitting. No matter if I log roll, get on all fours, or have my husband help me. It's quite a site to see in middle of night let me tell you. 20 mins trying to figure out how to get out of bed and avoid the hot poker in the belly feeling. Not sure how long that pain lasts, but it is welcome to lighten up at anytime

That pain will resolve pretty quickly.  I recall the difficulty changing positions initially.  Even though it hurts, keep shifting positions.  Prop yourself up on several pillows.  I teach my surgical patients to roll onto their sides before trying to get out of bed, slip the legs over the edge of the bed and dig your elbow closest to the mattress into the matress as you use the weight of your legs to start the momentum to get up.  Sucks the first few times, then you get much better at it.  Splint the sore spot with your hand, a folded blanket or towel or a pillow while changing positions.  If you can, premedicate with pain meds 30 minutes before major changes.  Keep a dose of pain med by the bed to take before getting up.  This will go away soon.  Use your thighs to assist with standing.  This is my post op aerobic class.  Thank you for participating.  Hugs and welcome to the losing side of surgery.

ohhh boy do I remember both of these discomforts. That full feeling is the air from when they inflated you during surgery. Little walks several times a day can help eliminate that quicker.

The pain going from sitting to laying, or laying to sitting is a challenge for a bit, but it will ease up day by day. I cannot recall really how long it took before that wsn't so hard, I am thinking 1.5 to 2 weeks it was way more tolorable.

I remember trying everything under the sun to make getting up easier.. it was a bummer then. Looking back now, a fly on the wall would have pee'd himself laughing at my various methods.

Hang in there, it will improve soon. Thanks for checking in and letting us know how things are going!
