Earlier today I posted on the main forum that I never knew about the other procedures, and that it made me a little nervous. i was looking for reassurance, and got "OMG CANCEL YOUR RNY NOW" type responses.

I get that I need to research everything before hand. I spent two whole years before deciding to move ahead with the RNY. Does not looking into the VSG and DS really mean I haven't done proper research to move ahead?

I guess I am just a ball of nerves right now because my time is almost here. I am in tears over strangers telling me I didn't do the proper steps to be taking this step, and its eating at me now.

Fellow RNYers, did you know of all procedures before moving forward? Am I really doing myself a disservice having only researched band or bypass?

Crystal, sometimes folks on the mainboard can be so into whatever surgical decision they made.  I knew that there were other options out there, my choice was made between myself and my surgeon.  The choices available at the hospital I chose were lap band and RNY.  Initially I was thinking lap band, until I went to the informational seminar and learned more about RNY.  With my co-morbidities, we (surgeon and myself) decided that RNY was the best option for resolving some of my health issues.  I was not willing to travel farther for care and followup.  This is a life decision, also I didn't want to be going in to have another surgery if the band did not produce the results I was needing.

Go with what you know in your heart and head is the best thing for your particular situation.  We will support your decision.  Do not let those who are trying do make your  decision for you control your emotions.  You will make the best choice for your cir****tances.  Come vent and share any time, we care for you here at bariatric buddy group.  Hugs, Kathy

I agree with Kathy...Sometimes people project to much of themselves on to others. I don't think anyone but you can make a decision for you. Trust yourself and you will be ok. I understand about the nerves.... Mine is on the 5th also. I am pullin for ya!!!!!!

Crystal... Now you know why I started the Bariatric Buddy Group. I was not happy with the way people acted and treated each other in the forums and wanted a place for myself and others where they would be truly cared about and supported.

Now, as for your decision, that is yours and yours alone, aside from your surgeon. I bet you were aware of the lap band?! Most surgeons offer only lap band or RNY. Mine did. And I know you have investigated the procedure you felt was right for you. I knew who I wanted as my surgeon. Knew what options he offered, and investigated those 2. I never even looked into or read about the others, as i was using my surgeon period. I see nothing wrong with decideing what is right for me ...looking into it and following through with having it. I see nothing wrong with you doing the same. You picked a very good procedure. It has much less risk than DS.  The VSG is brand new and not alot is known of it yet.. I wouln't change my choice for anything in the world.

If you feel like this is a good option for you, then what could be wrong about that? Don't let others do this to you. Stand strong and firm in your choice and don't let anyone push you around or make you feel 'less than" anything! You have my support and caring 100% gal!

Hold your head up be proud you decided to take control of your health in the way you felt best, and go into this feeling good about it! Okay?!

Tip..Nice to have you join us here! You and I are practically neighbors! I live in Pueblo West. I have a free bariatric support group here in Pueblo, if you'd ever like to attend. Let me know if you are interested, and I'll give you the info on it.

Congrats to both of you on your upcoming surgeries! PLEASE keep us posted as to how it all goes! In my heart and thoughts!

my surgeon only offered lap band and rny also. however, i do with i would have looked into the others, even if briefly.  it might have affected my decision.  i don';t think my medicare would have covered anything but lap band or rny so i was sort of in a spot..  people on the main boards can be harsh and i never go there anymore. i spent a lot of my life being yelled at and emotional, physically and sexually abused and i don't need it from a bunch of petty people who are in the same boat i am in. there, i vented.  good luck to you. vick
