Good question! It isn't a bad idea to see what your Nut recommends. I and kathy and not sure who else here use UNJURY brand protein powder. It is of excellent quality. Whey is okay, but you have to make sure it is an "isolate" to be more easily absorbed. You also want to be certain there is no added sugar and it is low carb. You can check out the kind I use at www.unjury.com  I swaer by it!

Right now I am using Nectar protein which are sweet ones. They are very low in carbs i think most are 0 and low in calories.  I like them but some flavors like pina colada I can't stand. However, I think Patrece is right, you would want to ask what your nutritionist recommends.

Sunshine, The best info for this time is to check with your nutritionist.  Order samples of several proteins, and realize that our tastes change after surgery and any protein that you find palatable at this time, may taste different after surgery.  I use unjury and a couple of other varieties of protein when I need.  Still have an occassional carnation instant breakfast with added protein when I want to.  So much nicer to be able to decide I want the instant breakfast than be instructed to live on that diet for days at a time.  But, ya gatta do what ya gotta do in prep for surgery.  I would do it again.

Put protein into the search engine of this site to find threads that list sources for samples.  Hate to have a large tub of something that you no longer will drink.  Samples forked for the first few weeks for me.

i like to use the nectar brand of medical grade whey isolate unflavored protein mix. i put it in yogurt and other stuff (like mashed potatoes or chili). i also use their  chocolate in low fat milk. i go to A1supplements.com because they have several brands and they seem cheaper than most.  hope this helps. vick

Before my surgery, I had ordered a bunch of sample packs from various sites and from VitaLady....I have also gotten some from Walmart. They are huge containers for only $14....and 52 grams of protein for 2 scoops! I have found that my favorite is Syntha-6. But everyone's taste is different, and our bodies react differently to different brands. Good luck finding one you really like....
