My real name is Charla...its definately nice to have found some people to talk to and thanks for the offer for help. i know what i need to do right now as i am going to use this last few weeks of this year to get myself ready to start the new year healthy...and i continue to keep it going. i am going to try my best to lose 30 pounds before surgery as its not a requirement but a suggestion. does anyone think it will be a bad idea to do slim fast shakes for a while or should i just start doing the protein drinks and diet in between during the day?

Kathy had excellent results using Carnation instant breakfast (no sugar added kind). Maybe have a couple of those a day then a healthy lean low fat low carb dinner and a protein supplement after dinner if you need it. Just a suggestion... Kathy's surgeon had her on a very long and strict liquid diet protocol. maybe she will chime in here and fill you in on what she did..
best of luck!

By the way.. the reason i started this grup, is because I had the same experiences you did.. feeling snubbed in other groups and on other boards.. that will never be the case here.. we are ALL buddies! And we all really care about one another very much and it will always be this way here! So glad you found us!

Hi Charla,  always nice to know a first name of my buddies.  Love the support I get here at Bariatric Buddy group.  Yes, as Patrece stated, I was on a fairly strict liquid diet for 3 weeks before surgery.  It was tough at a point or two, but I would do it again in a hearbeat to get to my surgery.  I was prescribed 3 weeks of the liquid diet due to my preop BMI of over 50.  The rest of my surgeon's patients did 2 weeks.  The diet consisted on sugarfree carnation instant breakfast, 5 packets a day.  Mixed the 5 packets with 5 cups milk, 1 scoop protein powder and whirred it all together with my stick mixer.  divided this into 5 servings spread throughout the day.  I supplemented the diet with broth, sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles, V-8 juice, tomato juice.  The combination filled me up, kept me active.  And I lost weight during the process.  I didn't feel like cooking much during this diet, my hubby became self sufficient and went to fast food as much as he wanted to.  I also had the same diet for the 2 weeks after surgery.  Total of 5 weeks, that was several (22) boxes of the instant breakfast.

Several other surgeon's request 2 shakes a day and a sensible evening meal.  Follow your MD program, it will work.  Looking forward to seeing your progress too.  Keep us posted.  Hugs, Kathy

Congratulations! You can do it!

I know that it's not easy giving up smoking. I quit a few years ago. I was just ready and I didn't have anyone hounding me. (I don't seem to succeed when someone is nagging me about things like my smoking and weight.) I eventually quit for myself. I held on to a pack and allowed myself to have one if I absolutely had to have a smoke. But as I smoked less the smell and the way they really made me feel bothered me more. Eventually I didn't want them any more. Sometimes I struggled with thinking I wanted one. Kinda like head hunger, at times when I habitually smoked, like when driving or at a social event. I believe smoking was really a social crutch for me because of my insecurities about my weight.

Whatever your situation, I wish you confidence in yourself and a belief that a healthier you can make you so much happier. Best of luck to you in your journey!
