Hi Gilda. I know what you mean. I'm having a hard time too and it doesn't help that the holidays are NOT the easiest of times to try to lose weight. I'm not required to lose, at leat til the last 2 weeks before surgery, but I'm NOT supposed to GAIN and lately it seems all I want to do is eat, eat, eat! I've had to cook treats for church and work and there are temptations everywhere. I had wanted to try to get as healthy as possible before surgery, dieting and exercising and loading up on vitamins. The vitamin part seems to be the only thing I've been able to do. I've started out a day drinking a protein shake with the best of intentions, but seem to fall off the wagon SO easily and can't stay on it for the life of me! That is a very accurate saying in this case I guess - it tuly IS for the life of me, and for you to. We are just gonna have to take control and get a handle on this aren't we? We're strong, capable, women and we CAN DO IT, right?! (Funny how I know you so well, huh?) : ) Take care and hope we can both get thru this-
Hugs,
Rhonda

Hi Gilda, time to start a list, rather two lists.

Reasons I need to eat well and things to do instead of eating.  Here is a starter list for things to do instead of eating.  Try to do at least one or two things on the list before eating.   Sometimes distraction really does help.

Things to do instead of snack

1. Imagine the new healthier you
2. Walk around the block
3. Call a friend
4. Make a list of your Top Ten Reasons to Lose Weight
5. Make a To Do list
6. Turn on music and dance
7. Jot a thank you note to someone
8. Go to bed early or take a nap
9. Read a book
10. Blog or journal
11. Give yourself a manicure or pedicure
12. Plan a healthy meal for your family
13. Surf the Internet
14. Finish an unfinished project
15. Walk your dog, pet your dog, brush your dog
16. Brush your teeth
17. Balance your checkbook
18. Say a prayer
19. Chop veggies to keep on hand
20. Give a massage
21. Clean out a junk drawer
22. Play a game with your kids
23. Try a new route on your walk
24. Drink a glass of water
25. Kiss someone
26. Try on some of your clothes
27. Look at old pictures
28. Rent a video
29. Wash your car
30. Take a hot, soothing shower

31. Update your calendar
32. Work in your yard
33. Start your holiday shopping list
34. Count your blessings
35. Write a letter
36. Fold some laundry
37. Check your e-mail
38. Give your dog a bath
39. Send a birthday card
40. Meditate
41. Hug someone
42. Rearrange some furniture
43. Work on a quilt project
44. Put your pictures in an album
45. Plan a trip (real or imaginary)
46. Straighten a closet
47. Clean out a files
48. Visit a friend
49. Clean out your trunk
50. Do something nice for someone

By the time you work through the whole list, the craving should have passed.  lol  You are very important and deserve the best.  Come here and leave a note before overdoing.  Lots of options.  Surgery will change your stomach, take the time until surgery to work on your mind.

It is NOT easy, amnd I know this.. But you are doing great! Don't give up or give in now.. you have come way tooo far! Just think  only another 4 lbs and you are half way there!

You say since your visit with the doc you are not motivated.. I have to ask..what happened there to discourage you?

Motivation... a longer, healthier, fuller, happier life. Bending over to tie your shoe and breathing at the same time, breathing and talking at the same time without being short of breath, walking through those narrower spaces you used to have to find a way around. Finding cute clothes that fit, The list goes on and on. But most of all.. You want this weight loss surgery, and this is something you must to to get it.. and you are almost halfway there girl! YOU can kick butt on this! I know you can. If I can do this anyone can.. believe me! And remember you are so worth it!

Same goes for you Miss rhonda!!!!  lol
Hugs to you both!

I did Nutrisystem before my surgery and lost 23 lbs in about 1 month.
It was easier for me because I didn't have to figure out what to eat and track calories, etc.
The portions are small, but you get used to them.
Take a look at their website (http://www.nutrisystem.com)

Good luck to you.

Kevin

I feel your pain. I only have to do it for 2 weeks and it is hard. But I will tell you what I was told. A lot of the reason for losing the weight has to do with insurance company requirements, but as far as my doctor goes it is because of the liver. The liver in obese people tends to be very fatty and they put you on the protein shake diet to help it shrink. I was told that if my surgeon opens me up and my liver is fatty he will stich me right back up and not do the surgery. That is about my only motivation. Thus far it is what is keeping me away from carbs.
